Sony has hit the 400 million Euro mark to cap off its launch week that saw PAL territories snag 600,000 of Sony's units to make the PS3 not only the most expensive console to date but also, according to ChartTrack, the fastest selling one in game history.Sony sold 165,000 PS3 units in the United Kingdom, some 80,000 more in France and 50-60,000 in Spain, Portugal, Germany and Italy. In addition, 150,000 people have registered to the PlayStation Network the same week. Not bad for the beleaguered kings of modern gaming.
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) president David Reeves said "We saw around Euro 400 million sales going through retail across PAL territories in two days; thatÂ’s certainly a big figure, which weÂ’re very proud of."

The sales are just the release sales give it Two weeks when the hype has all gone away and the sales normalize(DROP) .
Lets not forget a lot of the PS3s have come at the expense of the Wii being unavailable when it becomes available again expect to see the PS3 sales drop with it.
Even the UKs 165.000 is not a lot for launch week when you consider it sells almost as many as the whole of the Europe launch consoles in the USA every week and the 360 sells 100,000 more than the PS3 there weekly to.
The Wii would of had a big say in the sales if they were available and when it does become available again I think the PS3 will fade away.
It also has to compete with the biggest selling next gen console the 360 and the release of the 360 ELITE coming soon.
Any sony figures out of Britain are useless in terms of worldwide popularity. Sony could sell a branded urinal cake for £159.99, and there would be a launch line up.
Correction, the Wii has been enjoying strong sales. the 360's success has been falsely inflated due to its head start in addition to the slower PS3 sales and in reality is quite disappointing in comparison. The PS3 is doing fine.

The Wii has to be close to 6 million and the 360 is about 12 million, the fact that the 360 and the Wii are more popular with todays consumers wont change for a while. The 360 will be the platform in which developers for every type of game will think of first, the Wii will dominate in the innovation department.
Besides we will soon have a lot more of the Sony Exclusives, and then there will be no reason to buy a PS3. Plain and Simple.

Wow to say that the Xbox360 is better because it has more units is like me saying the PS2 is better then the Xbox360 because it has more units.
The PS3 is a solid seller, Wii sales have dropped already and chances are, it wont break 10 million as soon as people would think it will, probably at the end of the year for holiday sales just like the Xbox360.
To think more games will come multi platform is true, that means games coming from both consoles. Its already happened on both fronts.
The sales of the Xbox360 have been incredibly slow with even new releases.
By 2008 the gap between both consoles will nearly vanish and by 2009, the PS3 will have sold more then the Xbox360.
Halo3 will not sell the millions people expect it to like Halo did because it wasnt a launch titles. Its being released 2 years after the launch of the Xbox360. The majority of people who will buy an Xbox360 for Halo3 already have one. At best halo3 may sell a little over a million consoles.
The Wii is so far the best selling next gen console, with the PS3 behind it and the Xbox360 behind the PS3. you measure the time it takes for the systems to sell, with the lead the Xbox360 has had, its showing poor sales vs even the original Xbox.

lol thats funny. its not just about games anymore in this war, its about features...wii: (to my knowledge) can play normal dvds and will have wiitv, and i believe can play cds...ps3: (which i have) can download videos and music off the internet (i got most from google video), copy music from cds to ps3 (and later put on psp for on the go), play dvd and blu-ray movies (if u dont download them) find and save pics on the internet, upload camcorder recorded videos, download trailers, and demos ...and of course 360: (to my knowledge) can download trailers, demos, tv shows (for a price), and (i think) movies, (i think) can play dvds, play hd-dvds (after buying hd drive)
if your just focusing on games, wii has some entertaining games and can download certain old games, which, imo are great times of nintendo (thats all i got to say about it, all i like would be the smash bros. series and star fox series) and (to my knowledge) nintendo has the most exclusives... i could go on but i got off topic, anyway i support ps3

it sold 600,000...in Europe (27 or so countries) with a population of 728 million. Population of the U.S. is approx. 298.44 million. Wii sold 600000 in U.S. as of nov. 29. THe european adoption rate is .0008% [8 out of every 10,000 people, in the US (the first or sencond week) is .002% [ 2 out of every 1000 people]. That really doesn't seem impressive, just Sony bragging and over exaggerating again-if I did my math right.

When the Wii launched in Europe Nintendo got to say they sold out of them, so did MS who only Shipped 30000 to Europe for its launch. Sony shipped nearly a million consoles (thanks to the launch delay) so they got to say the PS3 was fastest selling ever....
Its all marketing spin, all 3 of them use it when trying to make their toy look better than the other toy. Consumer sheep buy into it, new fanboys are born...and it continues ad-nauseum until the next console launch when it starts all over again.

and what's more impressive, if you think about it, is that the ps3 launched last in europe - the wii and x360 have been around here for a while now and they are in commanding positions, but still the ps3 sold really well...

Eh dont forget one big problem with the PS3 not many comanys are including online in their games because it costs to much to host the servers, look at Virtua tennis and now it looks like Team Fortress will not have online play but both have online play on the 360 so it should get interesting....
PS3 sales are low, its simple as that, its the lowest selling of the 3 consoles at this time and 3 years or whatever means nothing, its now that we are counting the sales not 3 years time.In 3 Years time technology may jump so far forward that the PS3s power will be classed as a PS1 in comparison to what may be there then.
The Wii sales have dropped down because they cant make them fast enough that is the simple plain reason for that, it outsells the PS3 in Japan(which is about the only place they can supply at present) by about 50,000 consoles a week, the PS3 sales in its home territory are LOW and selling slowly there.
Forza 2(This is going to be a huge game) , Mass Effect, Shivering Islands, Guitar Hero 2 for the 360 a much more varied selection and that Lair looks like that rubbish game Eragon..

The amount of PS3s sold will certainly grow once games such as MGS4 or Ratchet & Clank are released.
Who does this console appeal to, all of the hardcore xbox 360 fanboys have already got their premium package, unless microsoft do some sort of trade in deal I don't think their elite edition will sell as well as they are hoping.

Reality: Millions of people already have the 360, millions more aren't just gonna go, hey look how hardcore that is lets grab it, people who don't already have a 360 might buy it, I think what microsoft actually realised is that, they were selling a next-gen console with a current gen drive, current gen video output and a relatively small if any hard drive capacity, the elite edition still needs one thing to come close to the ps3's generation, built in wireless, OMFG who wants to buy a wireless adaptor for $130 (australian dollars), to play games online costing you even more money, the cost of online play on an australian xbox 360 is enough to justify buying the ps3 with 40GB more storage fro a difference of $100, thats not even to mention the fact that you are being robbed of the ability to play next-gen discs without buying an extra drive.
If you look at any history books, or the history of consoles online before mouthing off everywhere then you would care to notice that it took two failed consoles for sega to die, so even if sony did lose this round they would still have one life left, If nintendo hadn't have opened up to a mass marketing appeal and made another gamecube, they would have gone out of business, besides that, What type of company was SEGA ? A video game company, What type of company is nintendo ? see how many sony movies blasted up the charts, what about sony bmg heard of them ? just another heavily profiting sony subsidiary, there are others of course such as their large range of consumer electronics, but obviously took this all into account when you made your statement about how the ps3 is the next dreamcast.
SEGA had nothing to back the company up, no other areas of profit neither does Nintendo which is why they needed to hit a home run, Sony has all its other subsidiaries as the backbone of its company, even if the ps3 went down the drain (which it won't), sony would probably still make another console, in other words they would pull a square enix, when the spirits within film totally flopped they closed their film division, and yet a few years later they make another ff film, instead based around their game that sold the highest, while the film didn't do as badly as the spirits within, it wasn't the most profit they have made, if any, the lesson here being a massive company doesn't implode after one flop if there even was going to be one. The Playstation will never fall behind as much as the dreamcast did, same as Sony would never go down the same way as SEGA did, Nintendo on the other hand is a different story....
PS: BTW, Blue Dragoon and FF are the only reasons a smart japanese person would even consider buying a 360, you want to appeal to people you have to speak their language, Japanese gamers didn't really rush out to grab GoW when it came out, because it just didn't cater to the majority of their tastes. I had a 360 about a week ago, but after the arrival of the ps3, it was time to shape up or ship out.
The only reason behind this is because Gabe Newell is an *****, he is a good friend of Microsoft and probably doesn't let his kids buy ipods because they are apple branded or let them use google or open source software.
Thats because the market is flooded with *****ty ports of old xbox 360 games, besides that you can just tell by looking at the amount of people that pick th wii as the winner on nexgenwars.com that the wii has mass appeal, so what ? so did tamagotchi's, mass appeal gets old eventually, and besides Wii's are a good to play with friends so they don't have to buy one of their own, they just come over your house on the weekend, and duke it out in boxing, golf baseball and the like, if everybody had one, you would try to invite your friends over to play it and they'd be like "I just got mine so i'm just gonna sit here and play with new toy". BTW the ps3 stills sells a lot more units in Japan than the 360 does, its gonna take a few more blue dragoons to change that

It is only logical for someone who dished out a bunch of money to a console to strongly defend their investment. Who'd want to admit they got jipped for their money? The truth this, influences over console popularity have less to do with each of your meager opinions and more to do with company ties in the background. Is the console gen wars going to broaden itself to a Sony vs. Microsoft? It might. It might get to a point where you might not see a sony vaio laptop or desktop with a Microsoft operating system. You might never see a Sony Pictures movie ever on HD-DVD (in fact, almost all blu-ray movie are from Sony pictures). This crap can (and probably is) more complicated than any of you guys can imagine (myself included) so just enjoy your friggin consoles and games. Who cares which sells more?
I've never posted an opinion in this gen wars crap. I've mostly posted on comments about games. Cuz that's what matters in the end. One of the most agreeable comments I've read stated "In the end, picture quality will NEVER make a bad movie into a good movie. The only thing that matters in the end is script, script and script...". How true is that statement? Check netflix or blockbuster or any movie rental place. How many hi-def movies are rented out? Way less than 1 percent. DVD will be around for a long long long long time. But I sincerely hope PS3 consumers enjoy their blu-ray movies. You guys invested a good amount of money, and I hope you see value in it.
As for console hardware for gaming, they're about the friggin same! Just let it go! Do you want to understand why Sony had framerate issues? My best guess is that their OS uses up more memory than the 360 dashboard. Less memory, GPU bandwidth and such most likely equals a slight drop in framerate. So what? If the game is good, it's forgiveable and ultimately negligible.
I have a 360. It's the only console I own. I'm proud of it and I love it. I can't wait for the new games Microsoft promises will come out soon. As for PS3 owners, I envy you guys at the moment because that Ninja Gaiden Sigma looks absolutely delicious. If it ever crosses over to Xbox 360, I'll be happy. Even if there's a drop in frame rate. I don't care. And PS3 will have exclusive games that will make other console owners drool. And vice versa.
Nintendo Wii has done something phenomenal. They emphasized a different quality of gaming rather than graphics. They've become a huge success. Kudos to them too.
Let's stop hating each other over "Next gen console" loyalty. There's people in the desert dying over much more honorable beliefs. Let me explain it so you can understand it:
PS3 SELLS OUT of launch inventory, all of which are manufactured in BATCHES. Each batch and individual PS3 has the proper identification of when it completed the manufacturing process. (On the underside of the PS3 is the main identification label with the month and year it ws manufactured in a little grey box) Anywhere from 4-6 PS3 boxes in one big cardboard box, then two of those in one bigger than the last, etc.
When the manufacturing goal is reached it is accounted for. After that batch is gathered, it's shipped to the country and received by customs. Then it is sent to warehouses to be distributed to reatail stores or online store warehouses.
That batch that has made it way to stores is already accounted for and if the stores and warehouses have no PS3's in inventory, and no other console could sell that many systems in that point in time, has lost the battle of the fastest selling console.
The point is: It's the fastest selling console, nintendo is the best number sold to date, and xbox is 3rd because it lacks a handheld; something both Sony and Nintendo have realized.
I 'll always love Nintendo, but i've grown up from nintendo and I want something that fits my maturity level. Xbox 360 is an intermediate gaming system as a PS3 is a gaming investment with the best rewards at the end for the dedicated gamer. I've had my PS3 sine launch because I had FAITH and the Sony announces Home.

Ok i own a PS3, my one bro owns the 360, and the other one owns a wii. Now i have to admit the PS3 is great but capable of much more, wich will surface in the years to come. and the 360.. yes good. but those who brag about GOW... i mean come on now.. what the 4 on 4 online play for GOW and the 8 hours gameplay. If they did come in May, they would be another rushed disapointment like Motorstorm. They need the extra development time to play catch up with the XBOX 360's awesome game linup.

So you're saying the PS3 does more than update graphics? They have trouble even making a complete game! Motorstorm is incomplete! It's an online game for one person that slows down all the time, with a half assed single player mode with no options.
Tekken on PS3 IS a last gen game that still costs $20, and only has higher resolution. PS3 hasn't done ANYTHING with games that hasn't been done before, and they can't even get that right!

I played Motorstorm, and I can honestly say it sucks ass. It has no play modes, choppy framerate, 8 very similar tracks, and is boring after 10 minutes. Look, it's #2 in sales for the PS3! That's all the proof I need the PS3 is completely worthless for games.

This thing has it all. Worth every penny. And if I wanted a 360, which I don't, I would just buy an original $130 xbox and buy a wireless contoller, that's right they didn't even add wireless wi-fi built-in option or hd-dvd option to ANY!!! of the three Xbox options such as Core,premium and Elite. They all stink. Trust me when I say the PS3 is future proof maybe not in sales as of now. But the Hardware backs up it's true power, it's everything the Xbox 360 is not!

Whoa whoa i can take that Motor Storm it is pretty crappy game its on a good way to teach kids not to drink and drive or otherwise they will crash and end up in little bit of pieces. lol But seriously Tekken is something to suppress the the fans until the Tekken 6 comes out. The only thing that sucks about Tekken DA is that it isn't an online game(hopefully Tekken 6 is). If there is any game i would pay for that is a port it would be Tekken! There are very few 3D fighting games which you custom your combo and a diversity of characters and fighting styles and actually pull it off right.

So now if you want to hook up 1080P you have to sell your previous 360 and buy a new one. The gimmick about the Wii, it's Wiimote+nunchuk s CAN ALREADY BE USED ON A PC. Just connect your PC to a TV and you can use the Wiimote in a game with MUCH better graphics (depending on your comp, can be better than 360 and PS3 if you have nVidia 8800GTX cards, like meh!).
PS3 is so far good for movie watching. Blu-Ray movies are teh best! I also use it for folding, which helps medical research and is BETTER THAN A PC IN DOING THIS!
