Even with the conclusion of the recent 24th Chaos Communication Congress (24C3) event, a lot of homebrew developers have already been trying their hand out at breaking the next gen consoles' code and allowing more end users access to its functions.

In particular, mainman has come up with a useful tool for fellow homebrew developers which help dumps the flash files that Sony upgrades and allows them to take a look at the extracted code.

However, the PS3 NAND Dump Extractor only works if you have the InFeCtuS hardware modification installed on your PS3 console. So hopeful homebrew developers out there who can decipher the mind boggling ones and zeroes the program churns out will definitely find this very helpful.

For more information, you can take a look at the Readme.txt file that goes with the application.

I don't see where this is going. I would not want to hack my ps3 for the fear of bricking. My psp is all the way hacked with tons of stuff, but ps3? what could you want if you have a portable system which can do the same thing? Playing ps3 iso's would be the only point, and we can't even discuss that here.

It gives alot more in terms of homebrew, at a much powerful level than that on the PSP. Yes we can already have homebrew on linux, but many people do not wish to install linux on their system in regards to space and/or in my case dislike.

Regardless of that, homebrew has always brought to the psp features we had wished to have, this would be the same in terms of the PS3, homebrew will bring features which the PS3 lacks in. The great thing about this, is that in some cases Sony soon releases the same features where homebrew has prooved there is demand.

Continuing on the same argument if a custom firmware was to ever come to the PS3 this would be a much appreciated app, where you know it would more frequently updated with features for more than Sony would like to offer all at once, there for always leaving us waiting IE - ingame XMB, if your worried about bricking your system, which as you know on the psp is a near impossability because of the recovery menu, then wait behind until a custom firmware for the PS3 comes through with a recovery menu. (regarding custom firmwares though, I'm jumping the gun that could be a long while of yet, but it would be more than appreciated.)
