PS3 Model Gets Bulky |

Sony has finally unveiled the new PS3 model, or at least a wooden replica of it. Frankly, it is not what you would call sleek or compact, a seeming runaway from the more popular forms of today's technology. It is most definitely big. And bulky.
Compared to Xbox 360, the PS3 would be taller by at least an inch, if put side by side vertically. Laying it down horizontally would then show that it is actually fatter, at its highest point, because of the convex curve.
While PS2, the next-gen console's older sibling, is definitely smaller and looks more direct to the point of hardcore gaming, the latest addition to the PS family tends to look like an office equipment, say, a printer, or a mini photocopier machine. The underside has stacks of a couple of different sized layers, which add to its bulky look. The overhanging midriff does little to lift its physical appeal either, as it only contributes to its awkward and uncomfortable physique.
But though the PS3 may not be up for the world's Next Top Model, here is hoping that its size won't matter once those superb games are finally played on it. Beauty, after all, is only skin-deep.

PS3 replica made by SONY out of wood? From E3? E3 model wasn't as bulky and certainly wasn't as blocky.

More room means less heat and uses less power do to the heat not being as bad if the console was smaller.
But I just like PS3 being big. Small or small and slim is really dumb and out of the line for me, lol. Big is better and if they come out with a slim line PS3 that would be totally uncalled for and it will have less in it I think.

Also, buy Live Gold for some years and a wifi, and why not even a cardreader and a couple of 20Gb HDD. Finaly, put a Wii in there, and sum it up.
Soo, was it cheaper than the still superior PS3 60GB HDMI1.3 version?
And is it not odd that the PS3 has got more games in development than 360 and that they look as good as 360:s second gen games before even released?
And that PS2 is still outselling 360?
Stop hating Sony, PS3 is the best offer, if you count in what you get in terms of design, features and exclusive games...

For *****s sake the Ps2 is probably THE most ugly console ever, and it still out sells the 360 and Xbox (consoles and games). Besides the Ps3 has 'more in it', and when I come to think of it, the 360 looks bloody auful. That dosent mean its not good.

But just the same, it's amusing to read comments from PS fanboys who spent last gen making fun of the size of the XBox, and now find themselves defending the size of the PS3. And of course there's the XBox fanboys who spent last gen defending the size of the XBox, and are now making fun of the size of the PS3.

The xbox fanboys are jumping @ the oppurtunity to further grind the PS3 because its a few cm bigger than the ugly 360, after all those years of having to cope with the bloody behemoth Xbox's size.

Besides, the actual size is smaller, as I'll trust the pictures on the official Sony website, which are smaller than the one in those pics. But, the Playstation 3 is beautiful. It's clean and stylish. I like it.

I don't like the ps3 model because i'm all around against "curviness" in electronics but hell who cares. As much as i like the ps2 design (I'm apparently one of the few) it's still hidden from view in my room. The only time design really matters is for portable things like PDAs and PSPs etc

The things supposed to be as quiet as the slim ps2, and 4 pounds heavier than the 360.

Ok so you don't need it? Fine. Ok then we need it, so we'll take it, just another couple things to enjoy from a $550 system huh? Ill be buying me a PS3. You have a 360. On November 17th, may the games begin. Until then, don't say ***** about the PS3 sucks cuz all of you don't know what is up Sony's sleeve.
"Oh, PS3 is so ugly!" Hey it looks more nicer than your face so why should I complain. "It's so bulky," guess your XBox didn't matter..."It's HUGE" Only 2 or 3 CM bigger than 360. "z0mg it's round!" Cuz it has new technologies, the 360 is still this generation. People, you need to experiment. Go further. XBox has got the processors of today, PS3 has the tomorrow. Yes, PS3 is a risky console for Sony, but if it does prevail, Sony will be the best brand in the video game market. They will stand superior.
Here is my opinion:
1st Place: PS3 / They are risky, but their new technology gives the PS3 stellar graphics, and a more interactive environment in the world. Not just shooting people around the world.
2nd Place: Wii / The cheap pricepoint alone would give a nice start in the system wars. The Wii offers fun and interactive gameplay to all kinds of different people and age groups. But the only flaw for the Wii is that hardcore gamers will be more appealed to the 360 and PS3 due to the fact that all you really do is point a remote controller at a screen that could only be fun for the first few months you play with it.
3rd Place: XBox 360 / 3rd place due to the lack of innovation. The controller has nothing new, the system's graphics arent extraodinary as we move into the next generation of graphics. And basically, it isn't a good enough update to it's predecessor.
4th Place: PS2 / The new SlimLine PS2 just started to make the PS2 sell. Yes, the graphics may have not been the greatest. But the humongous game library and many killer apps will make this system sell.
5th Place: DS / These little buggers fly off the shelves like hotcakes, giving the DS 4th place this gen, for it's innovation and game library.
6th Place: GameCube / The Mario series made this console great.
7th Place: PSP / This powerhouse is amazing with it's graphics, and the multifunctional ity. The only thing is it lacks a great library of games at the moment, but more are coming soon.
8th / XBox / It was the powerhouse of the consoles, but it just didn't cut it with the lack of games and killer apps. They looked to one or two games a year, which were great. But only for a more mature audience. Causing poor sales to the XBox. Will XBox 360 follow the same fate looking to a more mature audience, or will they look to a wider variety of an audience?
9th Place: Gameboy Advanced SP / It may not be a good handheld with it's 2D graphics, but it does fly off the shelves because of little kids.

Sorry, but that comment make's you no better than the gamers you're complaining about. :|
The GPU of the 360 (Xenon) is actually more advanced than RSX in the PS3, featuring technology which will not be seen until sometime in the future on the PC (unified shaders, free(-ish) anti-aliasing etc). RSX on the otherhand is less advanced and depends mostly on today's brute force approach. The result are GPUs of similar power overall, but if you're going to talk nonsense about technology of today and tomorrow, the G71 based RSX is far more today's tech than Xenon.
The CPUs are both technology of tomorrow, but yes Cell can be considered more advanced and more innovative, just as the Xenon is more advanced and innovative compared to RSX. The design of Cell gives it about twice the floating-point power of Xenos (the 360 CPU), however Xenos has 3 cores for running general game code compared to 1 core for Cell. So it will be interesting to see how this difference balances out within next-gen games between the two consoles. For next-gen games, I expect floating-point to have more impact than game code, so the PS3 should have an edge in this respect, but it's not a huge difference.
So both consoles feature processors of tomorrow, and therefore you're not going to see much difference between the games.
Where the two console differ the most is with the optical storage, where 360 does have today's DVD drive and the PS3 the next-gen Blu-ray drive.
