PS3 Loses The HDMI Cable |

We've always thought that the PS3 and HDMI is the perfect couple! We all know the PS3 as a next-gen gaming console. More publicity shy but equally impressive is HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface), which links any compatible digital audio/video source, such as the PS3, to compatible digital audio/video monitor, such as HDTV. About two months ago, no less than Sony Computer Entertainment">Ken Kutaragi was crowing about the PS3-HDMI partnership. His exact words were, "By introducing the next-generation HDMI 1.3 technology, with its high speed and deep color capabilities, PS3 will push the boundaries of audiovisual quality to the next level."
Sounds great except when you get your PS3 it won't come with an HDMI cable. Sony has confirmed that the PS3 will no longer ship with an HDMI cable because the company doesn't think there's enough of you out there with HDTV to justify including the HDMI cable even in the $599 PS3 package.

sony doesn't expect that many people to buy the ps3 until the price drip. 5 years from now, you can pick up the 60 gig version for around 200 bucks. so really, including it with the launch systems would just drive up costs.

yeah, if you've actually got a 1080p capable tv you've already spent about 3000 dollars or more on a telly, buying an hdmi cable won't exactly break the bank will it?
but yeah, sony have probably looked at the numbers quite closely and simply said 'well if we don't ship it with hdmi we won't lose as much money' - and so there it is.

This is so lame.

...ah, Sony never said that...maybe thats why i am not surprised!!

I guess they didn't look at the numbers when they boasted about 1080p and blu-ray either right?

HDMI cables range in prices from 10$ - 120 $ for super high quality Monster cable.
SONY didn't include one, cause well, HDMI cable isn't included with MOST BD-R, HD-DVD players. Also SONY could include the cheapest 2m cable, but would it make much sense?
Not really.
You get AV cables, same as with XBox 360, not to mention that XBox 360 doesn't support HDMI AT ALL, not even HD-DVD add on supports HDMI.
You guys really need to kick Allaric out of this site.
Why don't you *****er post Fight Night Round 3 PS3 screens?

i just think if it aint standard its just crap, becase it will not be fully utilized for gaming now or it in future. i am talking about the whole 1.3 deep color thingy. i just wished they hand one system with every thing. i guess fans of sony have had years of practice defending the system ie.. ps2. now its no different. has sony learn their lesson from last gen, the competition has you can see their tactics have changed. they have so much ridding on the this gen with blu-ray and whatnot. its like they placed all there chipps on the table, and they have worst poker face.
if the ps3 fails to sell its all sony fault. they have the larger market share, this is the third console so the arent noobs, over ten year in the game. they did hate on microsoft for the two "sku's" and now they are changing specs and nothing seems final or solid two months before launch, "down grade" the only reason i want one is to play the old franchises like metal gear, tekken etc... for real though the price is justified you have to look at it from a long term perspective.sony don't seem to understand that they do not have that opportunity, it about hitting the mark fast, hard ,and cheap.
if they fail at the TGS the are so done. every one know they are not going to sell as much as last gen it just how mush less.
----sorry for the long comment, damn that sucks ---
i have the funds just want the bad batch to pass i am getting one if febuary one year after i got my 360.

The PS3 is future proof. It has Blu-Ray and HD because HD is "becoming" the next big thing/standard in Television. It isn't today, but by the end of 2007 it's said that 25% of US households will own a HD TV. And in 2008 it will grow, and so on.

No biggie. The HDMI is cool, but not a priority for me so soon. When I get a HD TV though...

Well if we think back they took them out on a two part, heating and costs. The consumers just dont have a need for two hdmi and 3 ethernet ports. Did anyone notice this snippet of news? No they over looked it and the majority went on a fit when they show the more finalized product. That was lacking all that the prototypes showed was annouced previously to be removed. No lies just your ignorance.
HDMI is not needed for 1080p games! Its only needed for 1080p movies that have DHCP protection and guss what blu-ray movies will not have that as a standard UNTIL 2010-2012, so HDMI isnt really needed for even the low end PS3 for 1080p, component cables will work just fine for it. Also it was never announce that even the high end would come with hdmi.
As for the two sku's, Unlike microsoft which crippled there cheap version(which mind you is why many bashed on MS's idea). Neither the 499 nor 599 version is crippled, both have what you need, wireless controllers, ethernet port, hdd, bluray, cell, rsx, component cables that are able to output 1080p. Not everyone needs an HDMI port, have wifi in their house, nor really need the memcard slots. These are extras for the tech savy, not the general public with will be buying the bulk of the ps3's.
Bottom line is this. People stop bashing sony for your own *****ing ignorance, im tired of these mute points that have no solid backing. Get your facts straight, quit your whinning and use some common sense. Id see where youd have a problem with this if it had solid backing but its all flaming bull***** from crap bloggers. Dont be like the news, get your facts straight without biased comments and misunderstandin gs. Thats what editorials are for! Postivie and negitive, ying and yang, you need both to see the picture or youll just have black and white.

All of Allaric's contributes are SONY bashing rumors, or BS articles.
You get HDMI cables with your TV, rarely with players, and even if you get it with something, it's still that cheap crappy cable you can buy for couple $.
Does M$ include HDMI cable? ***** no, they don't even support HDMI, they don't support DTS HD, DTS Master Audio, 1080p, HDCP - they have nothing.
Why are there no Fight Night Round 3 screens posted yet?
I want to mindlessly bash XBox 360, just like Allaric bashes SONY all the time.

If people want to use the HDMI port they're going to buy the cable. Simple as that. I already have several for my TV and my computer. If you have the extra money to buy the better system, you'll surely have it to buy the better cables.

HDMI cables are getting cheaper and better so if you can afford to spend money on a PS3 im sure u can afford to buy a HDMI cable...
At least we have the option.

Sony justification sucks and is one of the poorest excuses I have ever heard. So when I buy my $599 PS3 it will be handicapped out the box, unless I go find a 1.3 HDMI cable? Let me guess the instruction manual will read that Sony can not guarantee quality unless I use an authorized device (hence a Sony branded HDMI cable). Lame, but expected. Oh well, I guess it's time to read up on HDMI cables because I refuse to pay $100 like I see at circuit city. Looks like one less game for me. Or how about no game at all. Maybe I can enjoy playing with the menus in HD until I can afford to purchase a game. Ha! Ha!

I for one bought a 25 foot, THATS RIGHT 25 FOOT, HDMI cable to run from my projector to my upscaling DVD player until i get a PS3 or a HDMI reciever.
How much did it cost me? 80 bucks. Its a very high quality, big gauge cable thats designed to exceed HDMI standards. HDMI standard allow HDMI cables to run over 100 feet without the need of a repeater or aplifier.
As far as I know there isnt anything out there that comes with a HDMI cable when you buy it. DVD players, HD DVD players or blu-ray players.
The reason they dont include the cable is because its still expensive. Whats the point in packaging a 1 meter (about 3 feet) HDMI cable when no one could use it.
Remember back in the S-Video days. Practicaly no company packaged a S-Video cable because it costed alot and the ones who did package them were too short to use. Once the S-Video cable was mainstream in every home the cable price dropped dramatically. You can buy a 50 foot S-Video cable with commercial grade design for around 20 bucks.
HDMI cable isnt a big deal. Anyone who has HDMI must already have one HDMI cable long enough to run to their entertainment stand or closet. Get a HDMI source selector or a HDMI reciever and buy shorter HDMI cables to run to it.
This was an expected move by Sony. They didnt package the S-Video cable with any PS2 consoles so why does anyone expect them to package a HDMI cable with the PS3.
Buy online and shop around. This article makes it seem like they took out the HDMI interface in the PS3.

Just think, all those rich guys with HDMI cable TV's will have to spend a few extra bucks for a cable, which is available everywhere consumer TV's are sold.
Current consoles never came with component cables, yet somehow the lack of HDMI cables is a problem! Go figure!

Why do you keep shooting yourself in the foot? I want the PS3 as much as the next guy, but you're definitely making that $600 tag less... worth it.
I won't b*tch about the price, though. My iPod costs $400. BUT, you're not offering enough enticement for your product. In fact, it seems like you’re intentionally ‘playing dead/dumb’ when you’re flamed by every game-geek and their make-believe girlfriend. And now you’re dropping the HDMI cable when HiDef is the name of the game for your console? That's kind of like Nike selling an awesome shoe, but without laces.
Stop taking away the PS3's features, and then trying to justify the losses as ‘currently unnecessary. It's not good business.
Please... pretty please... give us back our HDMI cable, and as a show of good faith, throw in a free game, a blu-ray movie, or damned sweet demo disk in with the system at no charge. Let the fans know you care.
P.S. Thanks for upgrading the HDMI to v1.3, though. That was a nice touch. He're looking forward to your 'big announcement' at the TGS.
P.S.S. .... no, Giant Enemy Crabs, please......

So, if the HDMI cable were to ship with the PS3 we'd all be fine and dandy, right? But now it's not.
you know, most people LIKE the idea of free stuff. That HDMI cable would have essentially been free.
But now it's not shipping with the PS3, and here we have Sony fanboys DEFENDING not getting free stuff.
Wow. WOW.
The wonders of fanboyism.
