ps3-360 controllerWhoever said that you can't have the best of both worlds obviously hasn't met diabolix. And by diabolix we don't mean some obscure video game character or some charismatic person heading a cult. He's just your plain smart coder who has managed to hack the PS3 Linux into recognizing the Xbox360 controller right on your PS3s.

Yep, you got that right. diabolix was able to compile an Xbox360 controller driver for Fedora Core 5, which means that if you're running Linux on your PS3, you can now use the 360 controller with it!

diabolix says that this has been tested with Snes9x and Doom under FC5-PPC. Here's the usage instructions:
  • Copy this installer to your PS3Â’s HDD linux partition and connect your controller via USB.
  • Run “install-xbox360-driver.sh” initially from the terminal
  • Enter your root password (if you arenÂ’t root already), and there ya have it, a functioning Xbox360 controller on your PS3!
Unfortunately, this doesn't work for PS3 games as it only works on Linux. But hey, if you're all for diversity then by all means, download the driver below.

crap!

Why use a x360 controler. We can already use a ps2 or a ps3 one. Much better. Stop wasting your time making useless hack. Where's my openGL !!!!!!

Very intresting

I'd assume that this would work for any FC distro, not just on the PS2, but on a PC too. I wounder if it's possible for a PS3 controller release. Because I know most people won't have a 360 AND PS3. Just my two cents. But very awesome indeed

Dual shock is still better

For the majority of the genres the PS design is still theb est. For shooter games, the Xbox controller is better.

What about the motion sensing?

Without that, most games suck...

pretty cool

pretty cool. Can't say I like the 360 controller, though. ps2 controllers own everything :)

lala trash

How can a controller be gay, fat, ugly, *****-ty, stupid and useless? You need to stop describing yourself and instead comment on the 360's badass interference free precision controller with rumble. I know you only can wish you can use it on PS3 games, but you need to settle for laggy interference filled bluetooth 3 hour battery life craptroller for now.

mr common sense

dude, do you even have a ps3? im going to guess no on that one, because if you did you'd know that the sixaxis isnt laggy. It responds just as well as the 360's controller, which I have, btw spent hours on end playiong so dont try to get me on that. Also, the battery life, as you know is much higher than three hours. This being my vacation time, I have been playing the ps3 w/ my friends for entire days, without having to charge once. I usually end up charging each controller once every 3-4 days, depending on how much I use that particular controller. And while we're on the subject of batteries, let me mention that the 360 controller requires AA batteries, meaning that in the long run it will cost you much more than $50 to keep that sucker up and running.

PS3 ugly ?, Controller Human?, 360 sealed Battery usb pack $15

Is the PS3 really as ugly and bulky as the pic at the top shows ? if it is it is hideous and that would not be sitting in my front room EVER. Some of the comments here are so stupid as "Mr. Common Sense" says " How can a controller be gay, fat, ugly, *****-ty, stupid and useless?" whoever wrote that do you think a controller is a living being?. And the 360 has a permanent battery to USB pack for around $15 so there is never a problem with the wireless running out of battery and is a lot cheaper option.

HAHA LALA

Just imitating the above post with the opposite (LALA is retarded.) Actually, the sixaxis isn't laggy, but it sucks because it's prone to interference. Also while it's light, I didn't realize how much I miss the rumble.
by - 2007-01-08 15:36:55
yes

yes i can use it under linux...... so know what seriously who gives a fck

360 Controller

There is a def need to have this controller as the ps3 and ps2 analog controls are inferior to xbox or xbox 360, the joysticks need an indent on top so your hands dont slip off plus having the dpad b/w the two stick is much more ergonomical!!!! good hack!!!
