japan ps3Local Japanese retail stores are now practically out of PS3 units, as video game magazine publisher Enterbrain reports that a total of 88,400 PS3 units were sold over the weekend.

An Enterbrain official said that these figures show the PS3's "promising start" (and I'm like "Gee, you think?") and that Sony would have to replenish their stock of PS3 units in Japan real soon because it doesn't look like sales are gonna start dropping anytime soon.

Of the 88,400 units sold in just two days, 62 percent of sales (precisely 54,600 units) went to the 60-gigabyte version of the console, which sells for around ¥ 60,000. Sony isn't the only one jumping with joy over the Japan launch sales figures as Namco Bandai also emerged as the top game publisher during the launch.

Ridge Racer 7 and Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire, both from Namco Bandai, were the topsellers during the launch, selling a total of around 30,000 copies each for both titles.

Alot for ebay/resale.

And 88,400 is a miniscule number of units for a launch.

» Looking good

It's very nice to see that Sony exceeded the 80,000 unit mark by 8,400 units. Now if we want to be very optimistic we can look at it this way. That was a 10.5 percent increase for units available in Japan.

Do that same math to the 400,000 we are suppose to get here in the US, and you get 42,000 more units. Now I know this is highly unlikely and all. It does get you thinking about better odds for any of us camping out for our PS3s though.

» Please just shut up

Can't we ever get news like this without someone acting like a giggling school girl?

EVERYONE expected the PS3 to sell out at launch in Japan. It was a given. Good news, but nothing unexpected.

"Of an estimated 159,000 units shipped to retail, Enterbrain reports that 62,135 of them were sold to customers Saturday and Sunday. However, perhaps most surprising is that Enterbrain's research found a game-to-system tie ratio of only .91, meaning that a number of people bought the system with no game at all. These numbers are by no means final, however. Another report by Media Create cited only 41,817 units being sold in the system's first two days.

According to Enterbrain, the best-selling 360 game of the weekend was Namco's Ridge Racer 6, which sold 29,891 copies. The runners-up were lagging far behind, however--Perfect Dark Zero came in second with 14,897 games sold, and Need for Speed Most Wanted took third place with 6,842 moved out the door. "

Hahahahah.

» so funny?

why are you laughing?

this shows that 1 out of ten people bought the ps3 just to resell it.

by Razgoull - 2006-11-13 10:06
» We all knew that will happen...

Sony show this week that he as the best hardware and he's ready to deliver for it. It's clear that the 1st year will be thought for them because they can't have lots of hardware but it's also clear they gonna win.

Nintendo Wii will start strong because of the media hype. But when the gamers will try it for more then 30 min, they will know it's toy. That's what happen with me last Saturday at the Arcadia festival. I though it will be more fun and the Gamecube graphic like, hurt really bad.

The X360 is already dead in japan with the sellout Ps3 launch and the Wii coming this December. So they only live in America. Europe will be a balance between ps3, x360 and wii, i think.

But Gamers are not stupid, with all the homebrews, apps, games, vide os,music and online community the PS3 can do and will do you got to be a moron to resist.

by CSFFlame - 2006-11-13 10:20
» Sony is not ready to deliver

88,400 units is not a good launch

current reports for the Wii launch (5 days from now)

is 2,000,000 units.

Please check facts before posting.

by Razgoull - 2006-11-13 10:31
» ok... clarification.

I mean by deliver that the launch preparation is over now and they will be hard at work now to make good games and apps for it.

And for the numbers wait after Christmas to have a good estimation.

wow.... thats a lot of kids waiting for the Wii.

No, you have to be a moron for making such a statement!!!

I really hate it when people call others fools or morons for not liking or choosing whatever appeals to them. The PS3 will not appeal to every gamer, for numerous reasons, but that doesn't make them morons for not wanting one.

» (and I'm like "Gee, you think?") LOL

lol

and one of my friend supprised me saying more than 100 000 unit of xbox 360 got sold in the last year in japan ( xbox in japan? ) but with 88 400 ps3 unit in two days... the only thing keeping japanese from buying one is the limitted supplies, so I'd say ps3 will sell pretty well.... at least in japan, here... dunno, maybe the same but with more unit at launch? lol, sony must be happy, and the contrary for M$ I suppose, anyway M$ will be more than happy with the limmitted supplies of pd3 for christmas, man this war is cool!

by dude - 2006-11-13 13:53
» dude

dude read my post under the name "hahaha". Xbox360 sold way less then 100k, and they had a lot of supply. Also take note that the games didn't sell well at all, alot of people just purchased the system and didn't buy any game. And to CSFFlame, how the hell 88k isn't good? That's ALL they had that's why. If they had 500k units, it would be sold out in less then 4 days I can bet.

by DUDE SHUT UP - 2006-11-13 14:07
» DUDE SHUT UP

THE PS$ SUCKS IT WILL NOT SELL 500K IF THEY HAD THEM ALL EVERY ONE IS DOING IS GETTING ONE SO THEY COULD SELL IT AT EBAY SO DONT START SAYING STUFF YOU DONT EVEN KNOW MORON JUST BECUASE THE PS$ WILL LOSE THE WAR DOSTNT MEAN YOU HAVE TO START LIEING ABOUT STUFF SO YOU COULD MAKE YOUR SELF FEEL BETTER

» One thing thats interesting...

One thing thats interesting is that if (and it's highly likely) PS3 and Wii sell out their launch stock, then they will both be tied in sales exactly at the time the Wii launch units sell out.

It will be interesting to see how it goes from there. I'm not sure which company will produce more units per week though. If it's the same, it will be very interesting to see.

If typing in all caps made you sound more intelligent this would be worthy of Webster's... too bad it works the opposite way.

» haha

A Sony system can seel in Japan just off its name. Besides, Japans software libary outnumbers every other countries combined 10 to 1. Seeing how 25% of there games surround Hentai dating SIMS/games. ALOT of there games never see light in another country. Only been to Japan once, about 2 years ago. I was quite stunned to see how many floors one store had just for games for the PS2. It will be the same case in other countris as well. The PS3 will sell regardless. Its just not all that cracked up to be as some people are hyping it up. Thats for now however. That can change later.

» Fanboys....

*sigh* fanboys in this world make me ashamed to be a gamer.

Im hoping that next week a fair amount of PS3's from the US launch go on eBay, perhaps I can snag one of there before the UK launch ;)

by smoke257 - 2006-11-14 05:24
» lol You can get one on ebay now if u got £900 :P

To the people going on about how much the wii will outsell the ps3, it probably will its under half the price of the ps3, but the ps3 is better i mean what would you rather win in a raffel (ok bad example as ud def want a ps3, sell it :P) but yea for people on a budget or w/e the wii is for you for those who don't care for the £425 price tag enjoy your sleek clasy ps3. Now im waffling :S sorry people.
