Ghostbusters game on June 16 - Image 1So why wasn't Ghostbusters: The Video Game developed earlier? That's because the devs at Terminal Reality were stalling! (Good things come to those who wait, yes?)

As it turns out, they were waiting for some good hardware that could deliver what they felt would "do the game justice." Good hardware? Wasn't this what Kaz Hirai was just talking about the other day?

Well, whatever the case, enter the PS3, and that just happened to be Terminal Reality's first choice. They're using Sony's platform as their lead console for development. Speaking to PSU, executive producer Brendan Goss explains:

Sony and the talent were adamant that before they got involved with a Ghostbusters game, the tech had to be capable of providing an authentic Ghostbusters experience, and that required graphics and physics tech.

The PS3 is a more demanding system to develop on and it is what the Infernal Engine was designed to exploit from the ground up. With the multiple SPU%u2019s it has onboard a solid multithreaded engine design can really take advantage of that and give you some amazing results.

Goss also confirmed that there will be exclusive content for PS3 owners. Whether it's going to be downloadable content or just plain exclusive on-disc content, PSU didn't seem to specify.

This looks really good and by the sounds of it they're getting some third party devs to make the most out of the PS3.

Good news for Sony, bad news for MS (well provided the game is good too). I'm giddy waiting for this, I used to love Ghostbusters on the Commodore64. I remember you had to set yourself up as ghostbusters franchise and buy a car, customise it etc etc. Hope they bring some of that back for the new one.

I think people are going to expect big things from this though so it's going to be very easy to disappoint, hopefully that doesn't happen though.

Although they're developing primarily for the PS3, because of the SPUs what have you.

1. Going exclusive limits your audience.

2. Sony doesn't have maket share on the PS3.

To prove to Square Enix that if you port to the 360 you'll get a game on 3 disks that's graphics are toned down!! GREAT THINKING GB!!! and fanboy (and girl) war starting in 3... 2... 1...

you are wrong. 360 isn't getting a bad port. As stated by various developers, porting form PS3 to Xbox360 is much more efficient. Both users get a great game. In the end, the consumer wins. That's how it should always be!
