Homebrew coders Hellcat, RichDevX, and SilverSpring has released PS3 System File Editor, a simple tool to edit SFO files similar to Sony's SDK version but with less restrictions.

The devs promises to add more applications (Sony SDK clones) in future updates. Now I know this might not benefit other users, but for others, this could be another step in the PS3 homebrew scene.

by nehebkau - 2009-10-15 22:06
» what..

do you do with this??

by pytrisss - 2009-10-15 23:11
» fail

muahahaha lolz, you rock!

» .

this app is useless unless you have a debug ps3, the official app is already in the hands of some hackers. This wont allow to run backups or make games remote play playable. Its just a clone from the official app. :)

» Suprise!

I simply Assumed the ps3 homebrew scene was dead. I can't find anything anywhere.

» mm

i wish people who own gadgets would look into

programming 101 or electronics 101

basically NO it will never happen, im not sure if this edits game files or what not

but even if it could, it would be minimal editing you would not be capable of editing an entrie game to create remoteplay, i wouldnt say its impossible, but its not going to happen

also youd then have to create a psp client

think of it as editing fifa (or NFL) into GTA IV

» so..?

does this get us closer to trophy hacks?

by indrora - 2009-10-16 12:14
» So in a nutshell,

This is nothing more than the constant SFO mechanism for PSPs. Great, sounds like we're getting... nowhere.

Cool design though.

» Useless

The PS3 Homebrew scene is dead. The PS3 security is super tight. This program won't allow any exploits. The only way I see hacking the PS3 will come from some upgrade from Sony that will leave a loop in the security.

by YAMI ANUBIS X - 2009-10-16 19:35
» Actually PS3 security is NOT super tight

You kids never think, do you?

Reason it has NOT been hacked is not because of the security, which would easily be hacked, if Sony didnt sue every hacker, who succeeded, you wonder why Dark Alex left the PSP scene after awhile and formed M33, its because he was scared that Sony would come and arrest him.

Sony unlike with PSP, they do come and arrest the hackers, who try to hack PS3, YOUR ARE DEAD WRONG! for thinking PS3 security is hard to hack.

Your more brawn than you are brains, reason hackers dont hack PS3 is because of multiple reasons, Sony will sue, arrest and send anyone they find hacking PS3 to jail or prison, there strict with PS3 like MS is strict on 360.

Truth be told homebrew scene died in 2007 because hackers found an exploit in PS3 firmware and Sony got pissed off because they found out hackers could play PS3 games without the discs and such and Sony paid attorneys to sue them but then Sony sent them to jail.

Its not really because its super tight security but its because Sony will arrest anyone who hacks it. This is there baby, they dont give a **** about PSP because if they did DAX and every other hacker would be in jail.

You guys need to do more research into PS3 hacking, its been done but the people who did it are in jail now.

» or instead if this...

you can install linux and run some emulators as far as I know

by yourmistakes - 2009-10-16 20:55
» srsly?

thats why we don't have any homebrew? i always thought it was because of the whole hypervisor chip. link plz kthnx.

by DCX6000 - 2009-10-17 01:45
» Ugh ppl that don't se their brains before posting

People (YAMI ANUBIS X ) that don't think things through should really be quiet.

1st off,

If any person(s) hack the PS3 (And by hack, I mean him, her or they, blocks or bypasses the PS3s' security to allow software/apps/codes etc, not meant to run on the PS3) that person will NOT be going to jail or sued.

Why you ask?

If you have a brain you would know how to leak information from a computer that can't be traced back to you. And I don't know of any person who can hack such a system be that dumb to get locked up as you say.

2nd (It gets better!)

So if info can be leaked without the origins being known, then why don't hackers just make up a little fun team name and leak it onto the internet. That way when PS3 owners get their greedy hands on it, Sony won't be able to make any arrest or sue anybody because too people will have it and no arrest can be made.

3rd (This is good!)

Where would that leave us? Oh yeah, Sony will implement Firmware Updates to keep hackers at bay. Sounding familiar?

"What does it sound like DC''?

"oooo! I know! IT SOUNDS LIKE THE FRIGGIN' PSP"!!!!!

4th

Oh, but Sony doesn't care about the PSP. Well if the PS3 gets hacked will Sony not care about it anymore!? NO they have firmware updates because they do care about their systems.

You sound like a Sony worker trying to scare people. If I had my own team of hackers I'd hack the PS3 and stick a huge neon sign on my house and what Sony gonna do? NOTHING.

by DCX6000 - 2009-10-17 01:50
» These guys

Will get arrested and or sued (sarcasm) No they won't. It's not even a hack so they are nowhere near getting sued. But I guess Dark Alex and FreePlay and the GEN team will get sued for hacking

by skotosa - 2009-10-17 11:45
» YAMI ANUBIS X Load of Crap

You go on to relate Xbox 360 Hackers to PS3 Hackers in the sense that MS Sues all those hacker and as such Sony has/will sue PS3 hackers. However, you fail to mention how it is that the 360 is constantly getting game torrents and is constantly being hacked around the world and yet the PS3 remains to be hacked like that of the 360. Every friend I know in Greece has their 360 hacked and play nothing but downloaded torrents of the games. If it is true that PS3 could be easily hacked then there WOULD be a bigger scene and more torrents available. Thus in conclusion, your entire statement is wrong. The PS3 is obviously not easily hacked or its popularity would surely but like that of the 360's, with torrents all over the internet of games to download.

by DCX6000 - 2009-10-17 16:26
» Thank you

Thank you for your comment skotosa. I don't understand Yami Anubis Xs' logic. I knew the 360 had been hacked a while ago, but I wasn't sure if the hacks were ever patched by Microsoft. I would of put the information in my first post, BUT SINCE I DIDN'T KNOW SQUAT ABOUT SOMETHING, I DIDN'T OPEN MY MOUTH TO TALK ABOUT IT! Gosh. Why do people have to act like they know it all when they clearly don't?

by pnkr0cker - 2009-10-17 16:30
» All of you...

Are still wrong! You can't be sued over hacking a game system unless you use it in an illegal way! If you use it to play games you've downloaded, then yes it's illegal, but if you use it for changing components, or even trophy hacking, it is perfectly legal, because Sony has no ownership of your PS3 once you buy it. If you use it in a way that steals money from Sony, then yes you could get in trouble, but changing components of a game system is perfectly legal.

Look at the wii scene, teams like Team Twiizers have many websites and even have their stuff copyrighted because they don't make homebrew for playing downloaded games.

» hey!

who let crazy uncle teddy on the computer without his medication?

by slack04 - 2009-10-17 21:22
» hey!

and crazy uncle fred, you too? new rule: crazy uncle fred must take his medicine before using the computer! no exceptions!

by DCX6000 - 2009-10-18 09:44
» All of who?

pnkr0cker I know this. I was making a point because that Anubis dude said that you'd go to jail or get sued. so I made up a scenario that eludes that path.

I think IF you ever hacked your PS3, you'd just void your warranty. I'm not sure because hacking is funky. Sony will push the boundaries of what's legal and what isn't. Bottom line is that hacks don't lead to someone being sued or arrested.

Oh yes. The Sony gestapo.
