PS3 homebrew: PS3 PUP Extractor v1.00 |
Ó
Homebrew dev NDT has released a program that can extract the PUP files used to update the Sony PlayStation 3 console. Those interested in taking a closer look at PS3 firmware updates will probably find this useful, although the dev does state that it's more of a programming exercise. The program is called PS3 PUP Extractor and it's currently at version 1.00. There are already a couple of PUP extractors readily available to the PS3 homebrew community, but according to NDT, what sets PUP Extractor apart is that it can "generate files SHA1 and extract the image version of the PUP".
The archive below doesn't include a readme, so we recommend checking out the source link of you have any questions regarding this app.

first here we go again but now with the ps3
is a pup kind of like a PSP's prx?
We've had a PS3 update unpacker for about as long as we've had PS3 updates. The source was included. This is just a rewriting of that source with a GUI.
And we still aren't any further along in using the unpacked data, because it's still just as encrypted.
ya know,i have accually no idea wut this hobble gobble means, but ... wut the hay.. roooock oooon!!!
...it's like the PSP's PBP files.
A PUP file is an update file for the PS3.
it includes all files that are needed for the update, basically like a WinRar archive or a CD/DVD image.
This program extracts the archive so you can see all files included in the update.
Now you could say, why not extract the files, change them so we can run homebrew and then put them back to one PUP file and install it on PS3?
Unfortunately, that is exactly the thing what doesn't work yet.
And when people start hacking PS3 ISOs and such, and eventually hack so much that they permanently brick their systems, I don't want to hear *****.
Hacking the PSP is harmless if you have a Pandora kit, but it's so pointless and unfun that I don't even bother anymore.
