PS3 hack successful with Motorstorm exploit?

A group of hackers over at the haxnetwork is claiming that they have, in fact, successfully concocted a method that will be able to boot PS3 Blu-ray copies with MotorStorm. Is it legit? Most are expressing doubts. Still, I bet Sony wouldn't be too happy to welcome the new year with persistent folks trying to have a crack at their system's security.

On top of the lengthy instructions to get the exploit working, the other downside of this is that it does not actually work for all games. Although, they claim that the exploit works just fine with Killzone 2, PES 2008 and Burnout Paradise.

You can check it out and see the Motorstorm exploit for the PS3 in action for yourself below.

It's confirmed fake. People should understand that if the PS3 hasn't been hacked so far, the odds are that it's not going to be...

lol the video has been taken down already. I don't believe the PS3 isn't hackable but now hackers do have a real challenge either way I don't care much as its kind of pointless to copy Blu-rays just a waste of money.

shut your little ass up. if you could think about all this you would know its way to protected of a system to ever be hacked. nothing will fix that. you going gangster-fag wont change that.

I think it would be bad for all PS3 gamers if this were true. People stealing during the height of a console will hurt sales and affect future games released. I do think it should be okay to do this after the life of the console, when no more games are sold for it and someone wants more use from it. Right now it is a very bad idea.

OK i am not going to say this is real or not Seeing as i know what it would really take to Crack/Hack the PS3 and i'll tell you that it's close to Impossible.

BUT if as you say "stealing during the height of a console will hurt sales" Then right now PS3 games would have Been Less money by now BUT NO!!! Take a look at 360 it's been hacked from close to day 1 and Sales are the Same, They are taking people for fools charging 60$+ for a game you play for 2hours (unless has online play "that's good") sadly i have a PS3 BUT i will never Buy a New game And that is whats really hurting them.

This.. is... SPARRRRTTAAAAAA !!!! LOL

Even if there true (which i highly doubt) its unfeasible to spend 20-30 bucks on a BDR to test if it works. This is too expensive for trial and error, not to mention that a firmware update would quickly nullify it and Sony would just ban your MAC Addy from PSN Access.

Honestly, the PS3 is a console i wouldn't want hacked. I feel that Sony has gotten it right and are offering things we actually do want with this console. The PSP was a different story and had to be built upon by hombrew Devs to make it worthwhile. I think Sony has taken that knowledge and put it to good use.

@GUNBEHINDTHESU N

Don't worry. I don't think sales would be even scratched by this. Piracy involves a very small minority and the vast number of users are not privy or knowledgable on the subject.

I think IF the PS3 ever gets hacked (which it shouldn't as I thought 1 SPU was strictly for running security checks) I think it would have to be a HW mod and if by some miracle some made a SW hack that disabled that security SPU or fakesigned something, then it would lead to a hello world before a full demonstration or BD Backups.

Sony will correct the exploit and stop the half assed "It sort of works" crap these fools are playing with.

Isnt like hardware mods are impossible, or in fact, dont exist. People just dont feel comfortable cracking open a PS3 to do it properly. Everyone is fixated on softmods so they can just 'erase the proof' if need be.

tl;dr The only way its happening is hardware.

Everything is hackable. Forever and always.

Also, I don't own a PS3 or know much about it's security features, but if it WAS (Implying this video is fake) hacked you could definitely spoof a bunch of stuff that Sony detected in order to bypass firmware checks.

There's no magic super security keeping people from cracking the anti-piracy features on the PS3. It's just that not many people have the will to try when Sony allows them to install GNU/Linux distros out of the box and the price of BD-Rs aren't worth the trouble.

I wouldn't mind if it was hacked as this would allow homebrew applications to run...

but this would also allow the pirates to do what they do best unfortunately.

Anyway, even when they'll hack the ps3, we'll still need a blue ray burner and BDs... So no, it'll not be hacked...

NOTHING is impossible to hack. The ps3 is improbable to hack. It uses Blu-Ray files which are more or less 15GB each, so ripping the games to isos and booting them off the 60HD as demos would be improbable. Making BDR backups would not make any sense because most people dont own Blu Ray Writers and Blu ray write-able discs would still be too expensive for the average consumer. Once these things are as easy to obtain as DVD RW writers and discs, somebody like Dark Alex will hit the scene and Hello World. Then everybody will follow.

Don't forget that we said the same thing about ps2. DVD burners and DVD discs were expensive and it wasn't theoretically sound to hack the system. Look at it now though, completely broken. Every system has been broken, and the Ps3 isn't going to stay locked down. I agree with the masses that liberating the system from its security would scrutinize sales and screw over the people who paid and funded PSN and the developers making top notch games. The hackers will break it though. PSP is the worst example in history of being broken. That system has been modified so many different ways from sunday that it is actually more profitable to buy an older PSP, download all the games your heart desires and put them on the biggest memory card you can find. The HDD limitation is going to be done away with too once the PS3 system is broken, even the Hypervisor. All of this high security technology driving the system is about to be breeched. The next "version" of the playstation is probably about the time we see this too, mostly because Sony knows the sales on the Ps3 model have made up for the losses they will soon endure. Once that happens, torrent search engines will explode with bluray game downloads going left and right. Essentially, when hackers finally rape the ps3, the world will end.

Well said, we probably won't be seeing any ps3 hacks until blu-ray media becomes more affordable to the general public. I'd say about another year before the ps3 gets hacked, but that's just an estimation :/

Well everything is not about "playing backups".. Think about what awsome homebrews we could make with ps3's hardware. like emulators, games, theme flashers and other awsome softwares.
If there only existed a Custom Firmware... Sigh..

What would you emulate?! You'd use the highest-end video game console, Home theatre centerpiece to play Nintendo games? LOL sorry i spazzed for a sec lol. The PS3 already does most everything. Sony's gotten it right this time on. They've covered all their bases. I don't see anything lacking that we'd need a homebrew dev to add, outside of a better browser, or Wireless N support (not possible due to hardware, not software) or maybe a full-fledged PS2 emulator. Then again, I have a launch 60 gig upgraded to 320gb so I'm a happy camper.
