PS3 game sales disappoint EA |
Ó
The low number of PS3 games sold per console in the run-up to Christmas has left videogame publisher Electronic Arts "disappointed," says EA executive VP Frank Gibeau.According to GamesIndustry.biz, Gibeau attributed the poor PS3 tie-ratio to "the eBay effect", where early adopters bought PS3s just so they can sell them at higher prices on eBay. While the PS3's attach numbers were a bit low during the December period, Gibeau also stated that the ratio did improve over the month of January.
Numbers from GamesIndustry.biz say that during the third quarter ending December 31, EA took orders for more than 900,000 PS3 games from retailers worth a total of US$ 41 million. For the same period in 2005, which saw the launch of Microsoft's next-gen console, orders for Xbox 360 software totalled more than 1.69 million units - worth US$ 76 million.
EA is currently the number one publisher for both Sony and Microsoft consoles, and has promised increased Wii support in terms of the number of titles available. During the last quarter, the company sold nearly 800,000 Wii titles for revenues of US$ 29 million.

Thats a BIG amount they sold for the 360 and both machines comparisons of sale were at launch ! and it looks like the Wii will soon push the PS3 into 3rd spot in their software sales come March.
This is a biases and skewed article. Look at the number of EA titles out for the xbox...there are more than 50. Now count the number of EA titles for the PS3...3 or 4 i think. Anyone who is surprised that EA sold more games on the xboxthan PS3 so far is a moron. Measure the amount of games sold once the PS3 reaches it's year mark and you will have a fair set of numbers to write your article about.
Thats it when you make sloppy ports.... every game EA put out yet has been trash........... they won;t have that problem next year when they make games from the ground up......what do they expect rushing out garbage ports for the launch....
Exactly, they make piss poor ports and expect people to buy them?
They should start playing the games they make, maybe then they would realize that they are the ones at fault.
EA's games for the PS3 have been crap. They should get the message and stop porting the damn games! Design a game FOR the PS3, not a game for the 360 designed to work on the PS3! Maybe THEN I'll buy one of your games...
i bought madden 07 for the PS# .. i think i might of played it 3-4 times .... poor port. they need to start making some new and exciting games for the PS3 then i will think about buy a EA game
I dont think any big company will do that and after all if you had a PS2 did you ever complain that the Xbox 1 owners were just getting poor ports of the inferior PS2 ?.
TRY READING THE ARTICLE PROPERLY I.E -
For the same period in 2005, which saw the launch of Microsoft's next-gen console, orders for Xbox 360 software totalled more than 1.69 million units - worth US$ 76 million.
Do you see the 360 was counted for the same period when it was launched NOT how many games it is selling now DUHHHHH.
so what is the big fuss about.
EA is full of ***** kthx.. i hope they go bankrupt soon.
like why are they complaining? They made alot of profits form crappy PS2 ports yet they start bashing ps3 and its only out for like 3-4 months?I think they owe alot to sony since the ps2 made EA BIG!and im not kidding.
If EA put out some good games to the PS3 instead of the garbage ports that they've been putting out, then I might be interested. I hate to say it, but it looks like (just how the 360 was as well) it'll be a year of the console being out before the good games start hitting the shelves. So sad....
I don't get it. I WANT to give them my money. Every time I go to EB, W*M, etc, and go through the game section, I always yell "WHY WON'T YOU TAKE MY MONEY! I WANT TO SPEND IT ON SOME GOOD GAMES! I KNOW YOU WANT IT!"
Sad state of affairs. And now I'm super pissed off that I just found out that there is no custom soundtrack option in TH:P8 for the PS3, only for the 360. Whats the freakin deal with that?
The quality of EA's games are on par with the other PS3 games out there. Sad thing is they won't invest much in making a good PS3 game unless the sales (and profit) meet their expectations. EA is a company that loves consoles that are easy to port to other systems. There is no easy way to port a game to the PS3.
"They should start playing the games they make, maybe then they would realize that they are the ones at fault."
Umm... All games go through testing. If they didn't play the games to make sure they work properly, it would be a horrible unplayable mess.
This coming from the company that somehow managed to ruin the Madden franchise.... right.
next-gen Maddens have been horrendous... yes the 360 versions too.
Gamers really should organize a boycott and teach these lazy bums a lesson
I haven't bought an EA game in years. Not since the 1990's at least. I used to buy the football and basketball games every year. Most of their games are garbage now. I've received EA games as gifts and I used to open them too try them but not anymore. These days, I just go trade them back towards something worth my time. Like many have said, if EA wants my money, they will have to earn it. It's funny when a corporation spends time complaining about sales instead of improving their product.
Why don't you register, Mister Common Sense? Oh yeah you can't you're impersonating him again.
