PS3 FW 1.51, now live |
Ó
Just a little over a week after we last heard from the company, Sony has released yet another version of its PS3 firmware. This latest update now brings it all up to version 1.51, and according to the System Software Update section of the PlayStation website, this new version contains the following additions:
- You can now select an image to use as the User icon from [Photo].
- [Key Tone] has been added as an option under [Sound Settings].
- [Delete Backup Data] has been added as an option under [System Settings] > [Backup Utility].
- WEP 128, WPA-PSK (TKIP) and WPA-PSK (AES) have been added as security methods that can be used with [AOSS] under [Automatic].
- If you have already set up for AOSS using an earlier version of the system software, you must perform AOSS setup again to use the security methods listed above.
- When [Automatic] is selected, the security method to be used is automatically set.
- New for 1.51: Support for PLAYSTATION 3 format software titles has been expanded.
- The method for saving your password / signing in automatically under PLAYSTATION Network has been changed. There are now two separate options.
- You can now enter text in Korean using the on-screen keyboard.

New for 1.51: Support for PLAYSTATION 3 format software titles has been expanded. This mean?
i updated evry thing look tha same
Please someone tell me I can watch a Blu-Ray movie in 720p agani!!!! I'll have to test it when i get home.
You can now select an image to use as the User icon from [Photo].
you already could do this on the 1.5 update...
That newer ps3 games, requiring fw 1.51 can be played after isntalling it
I was having some nasty wifi issues w/ 1.50 causing me random disconnects but since I updated to 1.51 I have not had any issues. It could be a coincidence but it seemed more likely to be firmware relevant.
I have not tried blu-ray playback since 1.31.
see the part that says "new for 1.51"?

If it was in 1.50 - how is it a new feature for 1.51? :S
its not for 1.51. if you didnt know by now, Sony always puts their older release notes in addition with the new update notes. the "new for 1.51" part of the summary QJ provided is the only new feature. the image as user icon is part of the 1.50 update
Sony has always done this. This way you can see both the 1.50 and 1.51 updates. same thing with 1.10 and 1.11
and 1.3 and 1.32 etc...
Dear God sony's download site is slow. I tried downloading the update on the ps3 and it was on track to take 45 minutes so i started downloading it from their website instead and its going the same speed. 40KB/s. OMG
I can do this stuff already and im at 1.50...wtf?
hmm it's fast for me... and how do you know that it's downloading at 40KB/s on the PS3???
That's because that's also the list of what 1.50 added.
I agree this is so slow its unbelievable.
OMG the download speed is pathetic!!!.
i was playing ffxi and in the midlle of a fight i was disconected and forced to dl this bs well 50mins later i log back in to find myself dead:( why cant it just wait till the nxt time i log uot to force this update they need to fix this
are you on a WLAN connection. mines on a direct connection and i had the new update downloaded and installed in about 10 minutes
Try downloading at offpeak times like 3am or something. I regularly get 6mbit+ from sony. You can't expect to get super bandwidth from them when millions of people are bombarding their servers.
***** doesn't work
