Yesterday we reported on the release of Firmware v1.31 for the PS3 and how Sony had not yet updated the details of the firmware update. Well today it looks like you're in luck as somebody has finally got round to updating the Sony site and given us feedback on whether the new firmware update fixes backwards compatibility issues. You'll be glad to hear that issues with games such as Nobunaga no Yabou Online: Haten no Shou should have been fixed as you can now play PlayStation 2 games that must be installed on the hard disk. Wahooo! Here's the v1.31 changelog:
- Settings
- You can now register the BD remote control in [Register Bluetooth Device] under [Accessory Settings].
- [BD/DVD Video Output Format (HDMI)] has been added as an option under [BD/DVD Settings].
- [Backup Utility] has been added as a feature under [System Settings].
- You can now select the hard disk format method in [Format Utility] and [Restore PS3 System] under [System Settings].
- The method of selecting output resolution has been changed in [Video Output Settings] under [Display Settings].
- Game
- New for 1.31: You can now play PlayStation 2 format software titles that must be installed on the hard disk.
- Other
- The compatibility of USB devices with PlayStation 2 format software titles has changed. For details on USB devices that can be used with system software version 1.30.
- New for 1.31: Playability status with the PS3 system has changed for some PlayStation and PlayStation 2 format titles. To check on the latest status, visit the search site for compatible titles.

does this mean hdloader may possibly work?
hdload says it's not compatable with the ps3 version.
Its amazing how fast these updates are rolling out.
Now I can play FFXI on my PC or my 100" with the PS3.
Great news. Now if only they could update the PSP with new features with every version.

yea you just need to read the "new to 1.31" parts. they didn't parse the information very well.
there have also been 2 too many newsposts about the same firmware...
More service for my money.
