The latest update incorporates Facebook into the PS3 experience. By linking your PlayStation Network account to your Facebook account, you will have the option for the PS3 to automatically update your Facebook News Feed with Trophy and PlayStation Store activity. This update also enables developers to set specific criteria in their titles to publish additional game information to your News Feed. You can then check out your updates, and those of your friends, on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media favorites through the PS3Â’s built-in web browser.
But wait, there's more! According to Lempel, this is just the beginning of Facebook integration into the PS3. You can look forward for new features in the future updates. Other highlights in the update includes:
- The Photo category on the XMB has been revamped to make it easier to see more of your photos stored on the PS3.
- The PSN Friends List has been modified based on feedback we received after update 3.00. Additionally, you can now choose a color for your PSN ID on the XMB.

Cross Game Chat is in the works but it just takes too much time to get it right. MS had like 3 years to work on it when Xbox 1 came out.
The amount of coding involved to get it to work on the PS3 XMB is not easy and simple. Is very complex and challenging. I do believe Eric Lempel stated this many times already and people still don't understand. *sigh*

I can see where a lot of people are coming from, personally i wouldnt care if any of my friends, girlfriend, wife, etc got a trophy or bought a game... Im sure many others could care less... one of the downsides to trophies for instances *same for achievements* they dont also show how hard a trophy is to obtain...
SF IV beat it on hardest is one of the easiest trophies i can think of, that sounds hard... where as beat the prinny pirates is by far one of the most annoying/hardest trophies i can think of that doesnt seem/look hard due to this a lot of people wwont care
those these are fluff features, you have to remember they also have to work on getting the ps3 better than the xbox, which if the xbox has a popular feature *no matter how useless* that the ps3 lacks they will use it to be better, so i can understand their stance...
finally on cross chat, its coming... but you cant be mad every time we dont get it, didnt they say 3.0 was the last major update this year?

And like the PSN store in Japan and how they get everything on time and a lot of updates on PSone and Home games...

I disagree, I think they do what ever they can for the consumer to be content and I can name lots of things they do for just that , like selling their systems at a loss, free online, a LOW failure rate, great exclusives.... but since I dont PAY for anything , I just dont ***** about free things. ... If they could do anything to make all of you happy then they would have done it already...obviously things like X chat and so on are delayed for a reason but not to piss you off ...and its been leaked by naughty dog that Xchat is coming so just wait and STFU ..

I think you will find that there are a substantial number gamers especially from the EU who are not to happy with the way that they are treated in relation to other gamers from other continents. You could try to justify it in relation to regional issues but at the end of the day one thing sony could do is plan a global release (game developers seem to do this just fine). Again just because you don't give "a flying turd" doesn't mean that everybody else doesn't.

It's also possible that whatever system the chat engine sits on is having to have a massive rework as well.
You have no clue what is involved to getting that function up and running. None of us do so quit assuming you even have a fraction of a clue.
They could very well be sitting on their butts or they could very well have a major project sitting on their desk.

Sony is giving these updates for FREE. Xbox users have to PAY for the same features we get for free. You think 360's facebook and Twitter will be better? Think again. It's a f*cking web page! You can't change it just because you use a different browser. When Facebook, Twitter and Last.fm was announced for XBL, I heard nobody whining. At least you know your money flows into the "cool" features, right?
Don't want to use it? Fine, don't use it. Obviously a lot of people want it, since the firmware updates are based on user opinions.
Complaining about missing X-game chat? They are working on it, but obviously they can't perform magic. Neither do I or any of you guys know how hard it is to code for the XMB. Their last update is just two months old.

Also, to address his new half brained idea...slapping someone else's code into your own code is a major NO NO when it comes to stability.
Lets say they update their server side stuff, now the client that every PS3 has is no good or it breaks something. It's not their code to fix.
You, as always, have no clue.
Sony needs to develop their own solution. That's the only decent/proper/stable way of doing it right.

Also they already have a voice chat system that works. Unless they made some extremely poor design decisions there is no reason cross-game chat shouldn't be possible with very minimal modifications. If they did something stupid when designing the system then obviously it's going to be harder to implement but I have a feeling it's more of a fiscal reason (i.e. they can charge game developers extra for using voice chat if it's part of the game instead of a feature of the PSN.)
P.S. ISOHaven, just because you play video games doesn't mean you are a programming/network engineer. I'm sick of every gamer thinking they're experts in all things technological.

At no point did I say "Yes, the features added in 3.xx are usefull. In fact they're so useful I don't mind the annoyances that are added." Unfortunately we are required to be logged into the PSN to play games online so I didn't really have a choice but to upgrade unless I wanted to stop using part of my games that I already paid for.
And before people say "PSN IZ FREE," that's irrelevant, I don't want PSN and I don't want updates. I don't use the PS Store, nor do I use the chat/friends list, nor do I care about trophies, nor do I care about the Facebook ***** they add. So why am I required to join a "free" service to use something I already paid for, when I don't even want what the service provides? PSN is NOT free because it requires me to give up control of my hardware if I want to use games that I own on an internet connection that I already pay for. Obviously game compatibility updates and bug fixes are needed but that's a cost Sony and game developers should front, which they will recover in sales.

anyway, my point was that because the technology already exist, in the form of ventrilo, then sony would have to code from scratch. now i dont know how long ventrilo was in production for, and i dont know anything about programming, but i kind of figure that creating code and making sure that it doesn't "steal" from other developers can be difficult. not to mention that it's got to be perfect in that there are no bugs and/or security issues that might threaten the millions of their users...
so maybe isn't as easy as some people have you believe, unless you use exsisting tech like ventrilo

TeamSpeak and Ventrilo are programs that run ALONGSIDE PC games that allow you to chat with people while you play. They don't require you to be in the same game or even on the same network.
They're cross-game chat applications. All Sony has to do is LICENSE ONE and BUILD A UI.
Like they JUST DID with Facebook.
It'd be f*cking DONE already.

You can buy a PS3. Plug it into a power outlet AND NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER plug it into the internet either via ethernet or wireless.
You can play MOST PS3 games without ever having to even have a PSN account.
So I turn this around back to you. What part of that DO YOU not understand?
