2. The message

Looks like Sony's latest firmware update for the PS3 didn't only include some minor "security patch" to block the recent exploits, as reports are now flooding in, some Call of Duty: Black Ops gamers, accused of modding and hacking their console, has been hit by a wave of banhammer.

According to a number of posts on the Black Ops forums, those who download the latest PS3 firmware, who have been found hacking or cheating, have been permanently banned from the Black Ops multiplayer servers.

I can see you get banned for cheating and modding lobbies, but just cause you have custom firmware isn't illegal. I have custom firmware, but I don't cheat or pirate. I just like the freedom and I am in student living and like my games upped to my hard drive while my physical copies safe at home. Hate keeping up with disc and if room mates ask for a game, say they at home and its on my drive.

With spelling and grammar like that, I would legitimately question whether they even could follow basic instructions, let alone modify files.

They're not banning CFW, they're banning people with hacked saves and irregular scripts.

Actually with grammar like that I would question the authenticity of their claims. If I had a problem like that I would make sure to write clearly so I would be taken seriously. To me it seems they're just grammar-trolling around.

Also while trying to decipher that, I can see they're trying to use the "whatever happened, somebody else did it scapegoat". 1st post is implying he might have used a hacker's account unknowingly from a friend. The second one is implying he bought a console from a possible hacker. And the third one is saying he might have entered a hacked lobby. So you see, they're claiming ignorance and at the same time they justify themselves. Classic liar methodology.

Good things always come with side effects....jailbreaking allowed freedom...freedom spread to pirating....pirating lead to massive crack downs on modders (and cheaters)...SSDD man, SSDD.

good... serves the little cheating shits right.
if you can't compete without the need to cheat, then don't play at all. all you're doing is ruining it for every legitimate player who has put time and effort into getting a respectable score.
i recently had my stats wiped on MW2, and i'm not very happy tbh, as i'd put a fair few hours into it.

God damn that grammar is horrific.
If it were up to me they would stay banned until they learned to use spell check.

i still disagree with everything sony is doing to CFW users at the moment but this is a step in the right direction! ban the kiddies hacking/modding games rather than those hacking the console itself!

if you cheat online you should be banned simple as!
if you play backups online you should be banned too, pretty simple!

Why does an update for a console ban people from the game? Why not a game update that bans people?

I'm guessing that 3.56 reports a little more about the console to servers than before now, which makes it possible to detect cheats.

Good question... I think Sony isn't able to Ban PSN Accounts... so instead they ban your entire PS3 via MAC Address?????

Or if they are able to Ban PSN Accounts, they decided to make it easier and just ban the entire PS3 so Hackers/Modders won't make another Hacked account.

But it sucks if multiple people use a single console and also played CoD:BLOPS, cause now they can't play cause of their stupid bro/sis/mom?/dad/whoever.

Then get your own console and don't let anyone "hack" on it?

Cheating online is a douchebag move. The entire console should be banned from that game.

Is it possible to know that you're about to jump into a modded server before the ban software kicks in? I've never been in one on my Xbox. Though I have gotten rid of it now.

If they choose to go into modded servers, shame on them. If they go into a modded server by accident, I hope there is a way to clear their names.

I remember jumping into modded MW2 Rust games... utter mayhem and we couldn't tell until it was too late.

I don't think a legit user can enter a modded server by accident since modded servers are not connected to PSN.

Ah fair enough, then banhammer the modders. There are rules for this.

Although, I would love it if mod servers were allowed, but stats don't carry over to the XBL or PSN stats list, so you can modify game rules and weapons and still have fun.

Just like in TF2 on PC. Though thats another keg of fish.
