PS3 Firmware 2.80 blocks Open Remote Play |
Ó
Sony earlier released a minor system update for the PS3. According to the official announcement by Eric Lempel, the PS3 update 2.80 will improve the playback quality of some PS3 format software. But it looks like the firmware update is not just to improve the quality of games as dashhacker have discovered. Apparently the new update blocks Open Remote Play, a homebrew program created by dashhacker that allows you to access the PS3's Remote Play feature from any laptop, desktop or mobile phone.Here's what dashhacker have to say:
As some of you may already know, Sony has blocked Open Remote Play as of PS3 firmware v2.80, June 24th. At this time, ORP will no longer work for longer than about 30 - 60 seconds. I've only looked at the problem for a few minutes but it seems that they've "poisoned" the video stream by some means rather than changing the keys or cryptography. I'll study what they've done and patch FFmpeg within the next... week? month? Not too sure how long it'll be before I can undo Sony's greedy brain damage. I'll post any progress here as I muddle through it.
Good thing Sony didn't implement an automatic update for firmware 2.80 so you can still use Open Remote Play, for those who have updated however, sorry about the bad news. Hopefully dashhacker can fix the issues soon.

It may have broken Remote Play altogether, as I have not been able to get it to work since updating my PS3.
Can anyone else confirm or deny?
maybe Sony didn't do it intentionally but they were just preparing for the expansion of the remote play on Sony phone Aino...
If they wanted to block remote play they had to change even PSP firmware i think...
im on remote play with my psp right now.
@xCraftx
we are on about Open Remote Play not PSP Remote Play. what the hell would make you think Sony want to block their own system???
@PKLegends
xCraftx was responding to Keith K's question, whose PS3's Remote Play seems to be broken ALTOGETHER after the 2.80 update.
Got it?
dashhacker said ORP is working for 30-60 seconds and then blocked.
Keith K said that ORP is completely blocked for him
xCraftx is just as stupid as you JaXeRiR
"xCraftx is just as stupid as you JaXeRiR "
So let me get this straight; xCraftx is stupid for answering KeithK's question, and JaXeRiR is also stupid for trying to point this out to PKLegends...?
I guess Darwinism isn't perfect.
My God you guys are dumb!
