PS3 firmware 2.01 to blame for Call of Duty 4 online woes? |
Listed in: PS3 Tags: Activision, Infinity Ward, Sony
Ó
When Sony released version 2.00 of the PlayStation 3 firmware, it introduced a ton of unexplained symptoms that many a PS3 gamer despised. Sony decided to address that with firmware 2.01, but just a day after Sony released it, another set of disappointment rose from the netherworld - this time, it's for Activision's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, PC).PS3 players have complained in the official Charlie Oscar Delta forums that online play prior to updating was acceptable, but became a ton of headaches after updating the console's firmware. Because of this, rumor mills have been working overtime, running speculations that Sony could have been responsible for this new mess up.
So are they? Maybe not. Other players running on PS3 firmware v2.01 have been able to play online sessions for as long as two hours before experiencing the same issues other complainants have been pointing out. Perhaps the servers have developed a new problem, or CoD4 is going to need more servers to handle the amount of players it's racking up.
So far, constant nagging from the media hasn't reaped any worthwhile reply from Infinity Ward or Sony, so official word has yet to confirm the true cause. We're just hoping for an absolute solution and get players back on their combat boots.

The issues have been going on WAY before 2.01 was out. I even sent you guys a news tip about it.
It randomly kicks you out of games and says Connection interuption or somthing like that. It has problems letting you log on. that about all.
But all of it has been happening since b4 this update.

at least sony tries to sort out problems reasonably quick with their firmware updates!!!

But I myself knows that the servers have some problems as I've experienced the problem myself

What people fail to realize is that if every company forced it's users to update firmware on their electronic devices, you would see these kinds of mishaps FREQUENTLY.
Sony has been forcing the updates on every release latly. They need to KNOCK IT OFF!!!
Force people to update at major intervals ONLY!

You people are ridiculous. Sony's damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Maybe if you thought about that for a minute you could have saved yourself some time.
There is no problem with creating NEW firmware updates. Companies move forward as such all the time. But they DO NOT force their customers to update. You ONLY update your firmware for two reasons:
1. You have a problem.
2. New functionality had been added that you can't live without.
So in response to your post, how would anyone be left swinging in the wind if Sony continued to make updates BUT DID NOT force people to use them?
Read my post again and figure it out. IF you have a problem then update as you need.
Also in response to your post, NO, Sony is not damned if they do. They are damned for forcing the update. They can DO all they want. This way if someone updates on their own then they have no one to blame but themselves....and Sony a lttle bit, until they fix it.

And I guess all these dumbas5's complaining didnt read my post earlier. If you did you'd know that this has nothing to do with sony. Its Infinity ward that released a game with all these server problems.
THE SERVER PROBLEMS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE BEFORE THIS UPDATE!
So its not the update's (2.01) fault, and not sonys fault. So how bout you guys figure out who the right person is to blame here.

this isn't a problem with the new update (which has fixed loads of bugs I might add), its just a case of the COD4 team not being able to keep up with the demand of their online service.
now, pre-emptively, before an xbot comes in and says "yeah, well the 360 hosts all xbox live games on the Microsoft servers, so we don't get this problem", you still have the universal lag situation wherein if one person lags in the game, everyone else lags too, which is due to the way the live network is fundamentally based, on the PS3 where separate servers are used any lag is localised only to the effected console, not all players... though a laggy game is rguably better than no game, this issue falls on activision's turf, not Sony's.

"Its so you wont mod your PS3 that they make you update"
Yup, also solved by only forcing major updates.

Who cares if they make you update? Are you really that mad because there making sure no one hacks the PS3 like a PSP, and that there fixing all these bugs?
Stop complaining, cause all these updates did so far was add features and security to the system.
People that had the game since launch should know that these problems have been going on way before this update. So if you think sony was the one that messed up Cod4 with this update your wrong. With that said theres nothing wrong with this update. AND WITH THAT SAID theres no reason to complain about them "forcing" you to update.

I DO! Because the 2.0 update screwed up a game I was playing.
Good enough for you? Am I allowed to have that opinion?
1. NO ONE complained about hacking. So your hacking point is about as moot as it gets.
2. I couldn't care less about COD4.
"AND WITH THAT SAID theres no reason to complain about them "forcing" you to update."
For the exact reasons already explained to you, YES THERE IS.
Your ignorance is no one else's problem.

THE UPDATE DID NOT MESS UP THE GAMES, AT ALL. AND ITS THE GAME DEVELOPERS THAT PUT OUT THESE GLITCHY AS5 GAMES. SO STOP BLAMING THE UPDATE AND START BLAMING THE PEOPLE WHO MADE THE DAMN GAME.
(thats the whole point im trying to get across but I guess you couldnt understand what I was saying. So to help you out I put in all caps for you ok?)
Sony cares about hacking and thats why they put up the security and "force" you to update. Personally I care about hacking. Its cheap as hell that people can get games for free in the cheapest way possible by hacking they system when others have to pay. That makes Sony loose money which will effect us in the long run if we where to keep doing it..

2.01 may not have but 2.0 did. Hence 2.01! What part of that do you not understand?
"Sony cares about hacking and thats why they put up the security and "force" you to update. "
Absolutely pointless. That only affects people to get online. Sony treats disc only customers exactly as they should. Have them update for major updates only.
As for your comments about hacking, you are dead wrong. Piracy does NOT harm game development. Want proof?
PS2
Xbox
Xbox 360
Wii
GBA
NDS
NDS Lite
PSP
Most of all....PC!
Even when a console is hacked what percentage of users do you think actually do it? Less then 1%. Again, completely MOOT!

What exactly did it do? Did it create lag online? Does it freeze on you now and then?
If yes then all of those have to do with the damn disks (that the developers didnt even bother to check for glitchs or did a hell of a bad job at it.)

Wow I wonder where you get your numbers at lol. The PC I could understand being on the low side (only cause SO MANY people have PC's) But consoles are different. I can say the PSP for example would have WAY more than 1%.
Your right that piracy dosnt harm game development, it actually hurts software sells.

Assassins Creed. Now that you'll run around looking it up...NO! The network/RSS fix did not work for me. YES it was Sony's fault and 2.01 fixes the problem. The game was flawless prior to 2.0.
"it actually hurts software sells."
This is where it's easy to prove that you talk and talk yet you don't say anything real. Sony losing a TEENY TINY amount of sales does ABSOLUTLY NOTHING to backup anything you've said in this thread.
~18 million PSPs have been sold. So you think more then 180,000 people have modded their PSPs? Maybe, but extremly unlikely.
Well over 100 million PS2s have been sold. If you think well over 1 million users have cracked their cases then you are nuts.
Keep dreaming that dream bud!
