PS3 Costs Too Much, Says Final Fantasy Creator |

Good news for Sony: The PlayStation 3 is the top choice for Square Enix's Final Fantasy as well as for Komani Digital's Metal Gear Solid. But not right now - and not at its current price.
"Two to three years from now, the PS3 will be the most appropriate choice," said Tetsuya Nomura of Square Enix in an interview with Japanese gaming magazine Ge-Maga. "We feel that when the games that we're making are released, the PS3 will be strong in the market...right now, as a game machine, it's too expensive. "
Komani Digital's Hideo Kojima agrees on the subject of PS3's quality, comparing the Sony console's gaming experience to watching a movie on the big screen. Meanwhile, he considers the XBox360 akin to watching a DVD at home, while the Wii is "a television program." While he didn't mention retail price as a factor, Kojima expressed disappointment that Sony was removing "rumble capabilities" in the PS3 controller.

Why does this sound idiotic? Because we have Four whole months to save up for the first round of PS3's and than another Month for the second comming. It's not expensive, it's affordable if you're smart.

Everything going to higher. Like Vista required 5GB when XP only need 600MB. Download legal TV/movie will be everywhere next year when we cannot do that.
The resolution gotta bigger like digital camera, gaming or TV too.

No wonder Kutaragi said "It might be too cheap". 600 bucks isn't that much, it's just more than we're used to for game consoles. But as the list above insinuates, the PS3 isn't simply a game console.

wow wireless controllers, thats worth it, considering all other next-gen consoles have this.
the $500 system is indeed able to output 1080P resolution through the video cables. The big difference is HDMI is sound and picture all bundled into one neat little package.
The PS3 is well worth it but people keep saying it too expensive and I don't believe that.
The smart people will start saving for it now

it was a bit of a shock when i saw the price but since E3 i have got used to the price, i saved up already and im buying the 600$ one
actualy it can to 1080p on the 500 dollar version, hdmi is just a higher quality output that if something has the ict tag it puts out at 1080p if its on component with ict tag its only 520p, pretty simple common sense if you ask me. The only thing that limits output resolution is the resolution it was made for and ict (bluray wont have these till 2010, enforced wise anyways). Also the ps3 and other bluray players are suppose to beable to up the resolution on dvd's to 1080p nativly.(blu-ray.com)
The best thing that Sony can do to really shake up the gaming industry and ease doubts, is to have the PS3's price come in $100 lower, on each version, than their E3 estimate. $400 and $500 PS3s would make the PS3 purchase a no brainer; but then again, what would be sacrificed for the added savings?
If Sony wants us to adopt a new movie/game format (a format which, if widely accepted, would eventually have them swimming in cash like Scrooge McDuck), then the least they should do is either 'tighten their belts' one more notch (even though $600s for a Blu-Ray + Gaming system is still a good deal in my eye), or give us a couple of free movies/games with the console as a show of good faith.
Anyways, I'm just glad that Sony is still backed by major developers. That's all I really look for in a new console: The G*ddamn games! (And not just PC ports, either!)

you know hes right, but they will be able to unleash the full graphical capabilities on 360 also. making 360 and ps3 the more power systems of the future. leaving wii in the graphical dust. but cmon, nobody has the motion sensing games like nintendo. the ps3 controllers motion sensitivity isnt as good.

the dvd9 is too small for a NEXTGEN GAMES.even if it fits,the games are compressed.
I understand what some of you are trying to write, but it would be easier to read if you would use a single . or ? or ! to end a sentence and one big character when you begin a sentence. I'm not a native english speaking person, so please ease my reading by doing these small things. It might seem cool to write like you speak, but it's more difficult for me to read.

PS3 supports DVD, and I would not be surprised if some PS3 games are released on DVD, especially multi-platform titles. And I disagree, DVD9 is not too small for next-gen games. Take Oblivion for example (yeah I know it's not exactly "next-gen" per se, but it's still a good example). It only takes up half of one DVD9, and half of that is just sound. So everything you see and use in Oblivion, all the game cells, all the items, all the textures, takes up one-fourth of one DVD9. There have been breakthroughs in sound compression since Oblivions release where they can get sounds to almost nothing, so you could probably fit Oblivion x3 on one DVD. And whoever says Gears of War does not look next-gen is out of their mind, and it is obviously on one DVD.
I think you'll be seeing a lot of PS3 games on Blu-Ray that could fit on DVD9 too, they'll just be on Blu-Ray to promote the new format. Who knows, obviously this will be an issue when the PS3 launches.
Don't get me wrong, the PS3 will have some phenominal games, but you're exaggerating it a bit.
Each and every PS3-game will be released on a BD-ROM, regardless of the needed space. And just because there are epic games that need less space it doesn't prove the opposite. There have already been a number of cases where something larger than DVD-9 could have solved a problem. Also with enough space you can use redundancy to improve loading - just put the needed data on multiple places to reduce seek times.
