PS3 breaks 1 million mark in UK sales; FW 2.4 coming: in-game chatting hinted |

Ray Maguire of Sony Computer Entertainment UK has some pretty astounding remarks about the PlayStation 3. Previously, he was confident that the 40GB PS3 SKUs would sell like crazy and help push the PS3's sales over a million through the holidays in the UK. Turns that he was right: not only has the PS3 now reached 1 million in sales for the UK, but there's actually more to the story.
Maguire has revealed that, for the UK, the PS3 has now sold faster than the PSOne or PS2. Speaking to MCV UK, here's what the SCE UK boss had to say:
Achieving one million PS3 sales faster than both PSOne and PlayStation 2 is even more gratifying considering PS3 is a premium product introduced at a premium price.
Our momentum will continue with the introduction of in-game communication in the summer, firmware update 2.4 and the strongest line-up of games through our third party partners and our own studios. IÂ’d personally like to thank our trade and business partners for helping us on the start of the PS3 journey.
Did we just hear right? Firmware update 2.4? Whatever happened to 2.20 and 2.30? If Maguire is eyeing a 2.40 PS3 FW, then you could guess that it's quite a big bump up from the previous 2.10 released last December.
Now, if you've been keeping up with firmware news, you'd probably already know what to expect: the BD Live firmware update. The most recent bit we heard is that that firmware could roll out as early as Summer, and that echoes well with what Ray Maguire just said. Confirmation much?
And oh... *face palm* (We're only humaaaan!) Thanks to Dr Egg who pointed it out! Looks like we got a tad bit excited about the "2.4" bit and missed out the whole "in-game communication" part.
So yeah. We, reiterate our question: confirmation much? Looks like it's going to be one hot summer indeed!

I think Sony will start steaming ahead now with new software fetures and updates. It probably goes the same for sales, I already know three people who baught ps3 in the last week alone. HOME new linux pre-installed, Ingame xmb, Freeplay I could go on but Sony is just Shining now.

IN-GAME COMMUNICATION. And you talk about BD-Live? He doesn't mention BD-Live. Seriously, what? Every wants to send messages while playing a game, and when it's release date finally confirmed, you miss it.

anyway on topic, I think it will come at late may or in june because the BlurayLive (profile 2.0) will come by that date... now with the in game xmb, Home (hope so because is after spring) and MGS4 will be a hell of a summer
he was talking about when to expect the firmware update because sony already said that the BluerayLive will come at the end of may or june so if the ingame messaging will come in the summer to well... 2 + 2 + 4

however, to clarify, FW 2.4 won't necessarily bring in-game communication. see, if you parse Ray Maguire's statement, we can expect three different things.
1) in-game communication
2) firmware update 2.4
and 3) the strongest line-up of games through our third party partners and our own studios.
and so, "in-game communication" could be an entirely different object introduced in another FW aside from "firmware update 2.4".
who knows? maybe we can see the in-game communication thing in a 2.20 or 2.30 FW update?

Actually, it's not your Shift key, it's QJ: when you use the equals sign, it automatically changes it to a "+" sign.

You do realise that 1 million in less that a year of release is way more than regular for a country like the UK!!!? And dont forget the stiff competition!
