PS3 beats Xbox 360 and Wii by three to one, sales up 999 percent |

The PS3 has outsold the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii by a ratio of three to one in the latest ChartTrack sales figures. The 999 percent sales increase follows the launch of the new slimmer PS3 SKU in the UK last tuesday.
While ChartTrack wasn't able to release the actual sales figures, it has confirmed that the console has outsold the Xbox 360, the Nintendo Wii and the DS Lite by three units to one:
The sales increase is very impressive, making the PS3 the top selling hardware in Week 36. The Xbox 360, Wii and DS Lite all sold around the same amount last week – PS3 Slim outsold each of them by a ratio of three-to-one
The longevity of this uplift very much depends on the time of year. The PS2 Slim was released in November, much closer to Christmas. WeÂ’ll have to wait and see how things work out for Sony this time.
Seems like a pretty good week for Sony. The redesigned PS3 was launched in the UK on September 1 for £ 249.99.

Due to the dip in sales before the PS3 slim's release, due to hype (people will hold/wait out) and lack of 80GB PS3 retail stock, this does not surprise me one bit. When you have people waiting for a slim, coupled with low retail stock, you'd predict/foresee a sales spike/increase developing once the slim hits shelves. I, for one, wasn't surprised. As Ryan pointed out, we'll have to see if they can keep this up. If so, great! If not...

It's new. Against 3 systems that have had a while on the market, the majority who want already owning one, and it now getting towards the time when people start thinking about Christmas. No-one's going to be buying them 3. At the same time, a new gadget and everyone that's been waiting for a PS3 price cut, it was going to slaughter them this week. It's just down to whether it can keep up high sales.

999% of the extremely low sales charts from the previous week isnt terribly difficult. Last week only about 30k units sold in every territory, total, that wasnt the US or Japan. This includes the UK, EU, Asia, Aus and several other territories. The UK itself only sold 5k units (5,159 to be precise, with a decrease in sales of about 25% compared to the previous week.) Even at a 10x increase, thats still only 50k odd units. Current estimates are putting the PS3 at about a 500k unit sale point this week alone, though. That is pretty amazing considering the PS3 has only sold about 23.5m units in its current shelf life. Admittedly, as many have pointed out, the same kind of sales increase has been seen in various consoles after such price cuts (Like the gamecube.) I hope the trend continues, personally, and heres hoping Sony can do something to keep the momentum up. I honestly dont care what it is, as long as it plays games, and the more units the PS3 sells, the more devs will be willing to make non-cookie cutter games. While God of War and such are excellent titles, I'm hoping for the surge in sales to motivate some people into perchance releasing some less sure fire selling sequels. A nice new Suda51 game or somesuch would be nice.

LOL @ all the PS3 Fanboy comments Only the smart one saw this coming. If you hear about a new product coming out, you're obviously going to wait for it instead of buying the current version. Example: iPhones, PSPs, DSs, etc. There was an increase in Japan when the White PS3 was released. The increase has nothing to do with wether or not one console is better than the other, it's about what is "new and different". People like to keep up with the times and like to be up to date with the latest products. "999%" LOL, yeah, because no one bought the PS3 last month. IF Sony sold 1 PS3 in one month, and sold 50 in the next, that would be a 5000% increase. In the month after that they sold 5 PS3s, that would be 4000% decrease. "Its all about the PS3 now" LOL.... "now".... How many times have I heard that. I'll definitely be hearing that again when Sony is "forced" to release another version of the PS3 in a few years. And when I mean "forced", I'm not just talking forced by their competitors, but also from the Sony fanboys whining and complaining about wanting something new.

the ps3 probably sold 75k or 100k. Cause last weeks Wii sales 25k. 999% increase of isn'that much of a when there's only 1040 units sold last week. But its still good.
Mine is the 4usb, 60GB, PS2 backwards compatible, pretty crome lined model and I love it more than the newer ones.

Tell that to everyone that's rebuying the new versions of the PSP, new versions of the DS, the Elite when it came out, to replace the old versions they already own. I never said it was the main reason, obviously that's the price cut, but it's a sizable portion that can't just be ignored.

The Rating System on here is stupid and pointless, they should just take it out completely, don't even pay attention to it. Comments should not be rated by wether or not it is for or against their chosen console. Its not just 360 fanboys, its PS3 fanboys as well... and Wii fanboys, if they exist.
A little bit more info on sales in Japan 1,556 "FAT" PS3s were sold in Japan from August 23-29 of 2009.
hi guys i have bouth PS3 and xbox so im not a fanb but the 3.1 ratio can be explained , may be 1 - the PS3 redisign : small ps3 feet Jap life style and any leeving room may be 2 - the school opening , yeah many guys just comme from holidays and found a new PS3 redisigned with low price may be 3- the upcoming titels * GT5 * GOW3 * FF * Unsharted ... May be 4 - its a new era

That's just a timed exclusive just like ever other 360 exclusive. Castle Crashers, Braid, Rock Band 2, GTA IV dlc, Fallout 3 dlc, Ninja Gaiden 1 + 2, Tales of Vesperia, Eternal Sonata all are or will be on the ps3 soon enough. Where as I can't think of a single thing on the ps3 that has gone to 360 and especially not a superior version.

Sony console owners love 'em. I have SIX PS2 slims - One for wife, 1 each 4 kids, & 1 for me... There are literally tens of millions of PS2 owners that have just been waiting to buy a PS3 when the price dropped! Eventually at least 80% of PS2 owners will upgrade. So I predict Sony will reclaim it's crown soon & keep it! Playstation Sales Charts: Round 1 = Release date all Hardcore PS2 Fanboys (me) bought one. Round 2 = Slim / Price drop 80% PS2 owners will upgrade :) Round 3 = Years from now another price drop lot's of PS3 owners will buy 2nd & 3rd PS3's for others rooms in house & in back of cars/vans. Anyway, I don't see why people are happy that a system outsold another system its not like we win a free hat or something (but if Sony sends out some kind of thank you then we all win lulz) but I can certainly understand everyone being impressed. Its a good sign for Sony and in a way its a good sign for fans. Better sales could mean more support from developers...Actually I guess that could be a reason for people being happy about sales.

You do know that PS3 slim does not play PS2 games +P the only systems that do is Hardware-PS2(99% all Game work 100%) PS3 20 PS3 60 Software PS2(60% Games work 90%) PS3 80(old version) And sony has no plans to Make any of the FAT version at a Lower cost, So more or less all them Guys waiting for the cost to go down to have Both PS3/PS2 just wasted there time. Lucky for me i Save money after every system like right now i am saving for PS4 (just hope it's no less then 700$) side note- I don't even think any of the PS2 able systems are even being made anymore let alone at stores (And that's very sad)

The fact is, PS3 outsold the 360 and the Wii, and officially, the newer version of the PS3 is not addressed as the "SLIM", it is still a PS3. The main reason why PS3 outsold 360 and Wii is because of the $100 price cut. PS3 will be getting the map pack for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, this was confirmed by Infinity Ward a long time ago.
Have a BC PS3 (was 60GB now 500GB) but will buy a Slim (making it my 2nd PS3) when I can buy a 1TB HDD for it. Unfortunately the only 1TB 2.5" SATA is 12.5mm thick but when a 9.5mm one is available to buy, I will be shopping online.

Yes, I know PS3 Slim doesn't play PS2 games. I got the 60gb when it first came out, + guess what I only played PS2 games on it less then 1% of my time. Then my kids were playing the PS3 alot, so I got me a 2nd one the 80gb model + popped in a 500gb drive :) My whole point was there are a LOT of PS2 owners out there that were waiting for a price drop + probably will upgrade now! PS2 games look older + older. It's like how many people use there PS2 consoles to play PS1 games today? Once I got into the PS3 quality of graphics, I don't want to play PS2 anymore. GTA3 vs GTA4 - no going back LOL... Bottom line PS2 has a MASSIVE user base + it's just a matter of time before the majority of 'em upgrade to PS3.

I understand your point But i kind of don't agree with it, There is still many more PS2 games that well out perform some PS3 games (Yea they don't have Realistic graphics) But for me that has never been a big factor in why i play games, The Main reason for what games i play is all about game play and story line. For a good example would be RPG games, There is just Way more better RPG games on PS2 then PS3 (Sadly FFXIII is going to Suck as they messed it up YET AGAIN on the fighting) Sad day for true Final Fantasy Players.
