PS3 - Image 1Phil Harrison, Sony's president for worldwide studios, has some good news for the Sony gaming community to ease the tension regarding the PlayStation 3's backwards compatibility.

The president says that come the March 23 release of the PS3 in Europe, Australia, Africa and the Middle East, the console will be able to host a thousand games from the PS2.

"The situation is changing everyday," says Harrison. "But on March 23, we expect the list to include over 1000 PS2 titles."

News broke out earlier that the PS2's emotion engine would be taken out of PS3 Euro in lieu of more formidable hardware which will beef up the next-generation experience that the console delivers.

Sony has also announced that a software solution to the hardware issue is forthcoming, saying that software emulation will be the means by which PS2 classics can bridge the gap between the old and the new systems.

Harrison promised the game community that  the company is exerting effort to provide better means to preserve backwards compatibility. he says "We're working to introduce a resource to the Web to detail which titles will have backwards compatibility. and as we make firmware upgrades, we will be able to add to that list."

Here's hoping that more titles will be supported by the plan.

Wow they are so dumb for not originally stating this. Their PR team is without a doubt the worst in the world.

Mastication for the Nation, you heard me right, i said it, and in a jamaican accent, so STFU. On a more serious note, the ps2 has over 8000 games, 1000 is nothing. Also, no matter how many games are compatible, if even one of them dont work on the emulator, it will be worth sh1t in my book. But like i said, Mastication for the Nation (In jamaican accent).

You pycho, anyway, its true, sony can have a massive catalogue of games that are bc, but even if one of those games in my collection are not compatible, it would suck big time for me.

Its a good start.

Seems the people on the Software emulation team at Sony have been working alot harder then the team at MS at the initial launch.

# You have to admitGuest 2007-03-01 03:26
It is pretty funny seeing how gloriously sony is killing themselves with bad press. Almost as entertaining as watching nintendo release the N64..no wait this is still better. ofcourse a good system doesnt assure success. Look at the Dreamcast it was far better designed than the ps2 and it failed due to slowing sales after the ps2 launch. I predict that we are heading towards another market crash with nintendo once again having the top selling system. Ten years ago when nintendo shot themselves in the foot by choosing cartridge i never thought any company could make a worse decision. Sony has given me so much to laugh at lately that im greatful...its a shame there isnt much about nintendo to hate anymore.

Do people actually take phil seriously anymore. He lives in his fantasy world, and the majority of times he ends up eating his words. This is nothing more than damage control.

8000 ps2 games? not really, try more like 5000 ps2 titles, and 3000 ps1 games. it ghas already been stated that all of the ps1 games will work.

Actually the Graphics Synthesizer is for PS1 games, not PS2 games.

The EE provided PS2 backwards compatibility.

So PS1 games will still use hardware, but PS2 games will be completely software emulated.

# PS3 has no games worth playing thoughGuest 2007-03-01 06:09
You can have 1 million more PS2 games but the fact is the PS3 games are rubbish so if you prefer an £450 PS2 SOFTWARE emulator thats your choice but why mention the 360 it has nothing to do with the fact that the hardware is being removed from the PS3 and the price still remains the same now does it...

# You are joking and you mention MS again ! weird man real weirdGuest 2007-03-01 06:15
Its amazing that anyone is actually boasting about the figures when it was pushed as 100% compatible and now this 1000 figure !!!!..

# US PS3 questionGuest 2007-03-01 07:24
So if the new firmware updates use software emulation for BC, what will the U.S./Asia versions use? Will it continue to use the emotion or will the software override the actual hardware?

Bad press + Oh well, we did what we wanted to.

(Basically Here's some things to hate about nintendo: Great, SD. Great, Motion-sensing?(if you're not a fan of it, but a fan of nintendo), Great,... No DVD Player, no HDD-_-;... no power.)

But really I think the Ps3 release was used to push Blu-ray, and well... it worked sadly enough. and as for the winner of the gaming war... dunno I think they'll all do well enough to make another console. And they're not killing themselves with bad press, they're killing themselves with exploding batteries LOL
