This is Living PS3 tagline - Image 1

A watchdog group has slammed a PlayStation 3 ad for its "underlying tone of violence" after investigating complaints about several PS3 ads. According to the Channel 4 news report, the ad in question featured a character called Kovac brandishing a knife alongside a caption that said "This is living."

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said that the online ad breached rules relating to responsibility and violence. The tone of violence in the ad could reportedly be "seen to condone or glamorize violence". Sony has been asked by the ASA to change the content of future ads to avoid a repeat of this issue.

The online ad was shown on Yahoo! and BT. Yahoo! has said that the ad was meant for registered users over 18 years old and who had given their birth dates during the account registration process. Yahoo! had also asked Sony to tone down the ad since it showed weapons.

Complaints about other PS3 ads have been rejected by the ASA.

I say ***** that. What about the army commercial where two guys are playing a Ghost Recon style gaming (Violent) and one of the soldiers in game knocks on the screen and tells the boys they "Seem to enjoy doing this How about a real challenge" What kind of BS is that?

it's called Microsoft paying off ASA to make much ado about nothing on the PS3 because they are losing customers due to poor design and the usual MicroSux bad customer service.

they complain about this and they don't mind previews for all those violent movies? The people against this are probably a bunch of pussies, hippies, or both

» There's a reason PS3 advertising is the way it is

The PS3 is all about violence!

Violent launches, violent fans, violent thefts. You have to appeal to your prime audience!

by Spectre - 2007-08-08 05:47
» HAHAHAHA

That's right! There were fights, shootings, looting, and drug trades for the PS3. That doesn't highlight how "stupid people are", it demonstrates the demand for the PS3. VIOLENCE! Bring it on!

At least thePS3 wont burn down your house or scratch your disc. lmao There were just as many muggings for the 360 as there were for the PS3. If anything the 360 audience is more violent seeing as how the 360 mainly offers FPS's. Anyhoot movie previews on TV and even Southpark is more violent than this ad they're talking about. This is total BS

Damn right, and the 360s all about inbred hicks and wankers ! They dont even have to advertise for their prime audience, they just come all ready for a gay time ! Microsoft rocks !

All i hear is violence this and violence that.

I think we (gamers) let the steam out by killing stuff in game (unlike some other people that dont know any other way than take a real weapon and go kill someone in reality) and i think this is the right thing to do.

I love Extreeme violence in games... the more blood the better. But i would never do such things in real life cause i know its not right. I think if kids are born as stupid not to be able to realise they should not kill in real life, they parents should make it their primary goal to explain that games and real life are 2 different things.and if they still cant do that , they need to shoot em, otherwise it will be too late and their kids will turn into maniacs and killers anyway.

» Er....

Halo 3's definitely the biggest upcoming title for 360, joining Perfect Dark, Gears of War, the GTA clone....PS3's most anticipated title is probably littlebigplanet .

The horror...the horror.

by Barakku - 2007-08-08 14:52
» Exactly

Violent games are for release, not murder training and all that BS. I've always loved violent games to relieve stress (hurts less than punching a wall or getting into a fight), and I've played games from Onimushua 1 (my first PS2 title) to GoW2 (Ironicly, my latest) to Resistance to calm down. I'll disagree the more blood the better-I prefer disappearing blood; games anymore have gone a bit gung-ho, but still.

Violent games let use relieve stress in ways Loco Roco and Viva Pianta can't satisfy. Violent games are also a good outlet for competition--there's nothing like that moment where you blast your best friend's face in and you both laugh. Humans are naturally violent, especially at certain ages--it's better to let them let it out against the Covenant or Chimera or Locust or whatever than against other, real, breathing people, and most kids know that games are different from real life. I don't remember the last time a locust in real life sawed me in half.

When did a XBOX 360 ever catch fire, or worse burn down a house? I thought that was just sony laptop batteries.

Ok so the 360s problems are well known on the internet, and the fantards always make a huge deal about them when faced with the PS3's pathetic game selection.

However, I was on ebay today, and I thought for the hell of it, I would look up, "as is PS3" in searches. There's quite a few broken PS3s on ebay! Less than a year old, aren't they still under warranty? I asked one of the sellers a question. "Why haven't you contacted sony to get this fixed? Isn't it still under warranty?"

His response was "I lost the store receipt. Sony required me to have the store receipt, even though it couldn't possibly be more than a year old. Therefore I couldn't get them to fix it free"

What a load of crap. Yeah, that's coming from sony customer support.

The problems I see on the broken PS3s on ebay are varied. No picture, not powering up, disc read error (of course I knew I would see those,) and weird problems like ejecting discs as soon as they're put in.

It seems to me the PS3 may have a better reliability record than the XBOX, but it's far from a perfect product, and sony is a company that will still try to get out of fixing it!

Don't believe me? Do a ebay search yourself! With no mods available and all consoles supposedly covered under warranty still, there should be almost NO broken PS3 consoles being sold on ebay!

Am I the only one that notices these things? Like Peter Dille would say, "by the way, they don't even work."
