PS3 3D firmware update due this summer?

3dbr Apart from adding a still-unnamed motion controller to their 2010 slate, Sony also has 3D gaming scheduled for the year coming via firmware update. In an interview with Pocket-Lint, John Koller revealed that the feature will be launched "in conjunction with the launch of Sony's 3D compatible Bravia LCD TV in summer 2010".

"3D is a major part of our initiatives in 2010 and we’re currently developing 3D stereoscopic games to come in conjunction with the launch of Sony's 3D compatible Bravia LCD TV in summer 2010," he said exactly. "The amazing thing about the PS3's technology is that all PS3 units that exist in homes and markets will be able to play 3D stereoscopic games as well as 3D BD movies through separate firmware upgrades - something that other platforms are unable to do."

Take it all with a grain of salt people!!!!

Don't just buy into this without checking it out first. Actually play a game with it and watch a movie with it before you buy a new TV.

I looked at a bunch of different solutions at CES this year and they ALL sucked. This 3D tech doesn't look so great on a large TV from across the room. Up close and personal on a PC monitor, yes. Other stuff, no.

Nope! I started to explain it then as always I found myself looking at 4 huge paragraphs of info that probably would have just confused people. So I found this instead:

"there are two main differences between a 3D TV and a standard high-definition screen. The first is processing power. As the TV is showing double the number of frames as a standard screen, it needs far more processing power (you also need an HDMI 1.4 cable to handle the extra bandwidth).

The second is image persistence. On a standard screen, each image takes a while to fade out completely, like a tungsten bulb dims when you turn it off. When you're showing an identical but offset image to different eyes, the image can blur if the transition isn't quick enough. 3D TVs have far less persistence when switching between images."

but ive used glasses to watch programs in 3D before and my tv is nothing special. at least i dont think it is.

Were you using COLORED glasses?

That's different. That's NOT the same as the movie theaters today. They are bring what is in the movie theaters today to your home.

Which is better because the movie isn't screwed up from being seen in a weird tinted color.
