PS2 and Xbox price drops expected soon... |
Ó
Lazard Capital, a financial advisory firm believes that Sony will cut the price of their PS2 by the end of the month. This price drop is also expected to fall by around $20 to $129. They have the idea that possibly by 2007 Sony could cut the price by another amount to $99. The company also believes that the price of the Xbox (original) is expected to fall in retaliation. However this price drop might not increase sales as the delivery of the Xbox is becoming slower and fewer. As next generation consoles roll-out the software titles to go with the original consoles are suffering and sales are falling. A price drop could increase some sales, however in order to see a great gain, current generation software firms will also have to cuts their prices. This is already apparent by companies like EA who are cutting prices by up to 20%. All of Lazard's thoughts are in direct contrast with what Ken Kutaragi said at the Playstation Business briefing in March, where it was stated no price drops would happen.
