PS One titles for the PS3 to be fixed come May

PS One - Image 1As some PlayStation 3 owners have already probably discovered by now, the existing PS One software currently available for download on the PlayStation Network doesn't work. The speculation regarding this is that there is supposedly a need to remove the certification key required to play games on Sony's portable platform. Sony Computer Entertainment America has confirmed with IGN that this speculation is indeed true.

The explanation is that under the current setup, two different files (the ROM itself, and the certification key) are needed to activate PS1 software on the PSP, but such a system isn't needed for the PS3, hence the conflict. Don't worry though, as SEA manager Al de Leon notes that they'll be replacing the Older PS1 games for download with fixed versions come May.

The SCEA manager notes, "Once the new games are uploaded, you'll be able to download the games straight to your hard drive and play them from there."

Users who have already downloaded the old unfixed versions of the PS One titles on the PlayStation Network, do not have to pay for the new PS3 compatible versions a second time. There is still no clarification as to whether or not the "five downloads per license" rule still applies.

Sony could not comment if the new version of the games that had multiplayer options disabled for PSP emulation would have those modes reimplemented for the PS3.

Also Where Are All The Games?

They need to hurry up and get more PS1 games on there soon. There is really no excuse for the delay. One would think that all they would have to do is add or tweak a file here or there and release it. If its any harder than that they are doing something wrong then. How long will it take for them to re-release these same ones in the future when the PS4 comes out? Sheesh!

i think not

they probably dont wanna update their firmwares because of homebrew and downgraders not able on higher firmwares hahahahahahahahahaha

I swear

Can't Sony do anything right?

well heres one thing

they have to do all that virtual instruction booklet stuff all the ps1 games came with in the case

right now

The reason the games aren't working is that they still need to get the cert. key working. And @yeah I agree that it's kind of stupid that they released a FW update W/O the main feature working, but if you ask me I'd rather have the FW now instead of May when there finished working out the kinks. It's not like they'll fix the issues any earlier.

who knows?

I converted 26 of my PS1 games to PSP using popstation complete with icons and instructions in far less time than it takes sony to announce one sh*tty PS1 game release. Definately tells you how lazy they are. Pretty f*cking pathetic they can't even get their own PS1 downloaded game files to work on a PS3, when it's a huge feature of the new firmware. Isn't the cell supposed to be powerful enough to emulate a 11 year old processor? Is all the ram used by the OS or something? Can they not figure out their own copy protection? Shouldn't have laid off all those workers. The PSP is much better and more useful than a PS3 anyday.
