PlayStation Home Beta has just been given an update according to online site Console-exploits, and with it came a lot of exciting improvements and possibly DivX support in the future. Leaks from the beta has been an iffy topic since PS Home Director Peter Howard warned testers that they will ban those who don't "behave properly".

Anyway, it was revealed that the Home Square is finally available for testers. Speaking of which, an important modification has been made with the Home's system regarding downloads. According to the above mentioned site, players will be given more options because the locations have been made into optional downloads.

That means that player can opt not to download certain places like the cinema if he/she thinks that it will not be useful for his/her experience anyway. Also, one particular screenshot has hinted PS home is compatible with DivX. There are a lot more to be revealed in the future but in the mean time, just a look at the screenshots below.

# Divx / MP4 whats the difference?Keith K 2007-09-13 23:27
If you're going to load an entire movie on to your PS3, what does it matter what format its in? Divx can easily be converted to MP4 in full resolution to watch on PS3 or PSP.

It takes a crapload of time to do so? Like when you have a bunch of heroes episodes.

Having Divx playback would be great. All my downloaded TV Shows and Movies are mostly in Divx. This would save alot of time on converting.

No conversion...The all point to play DivX is that you don't have to convert it !!! Less trouble... more entertainment, the Sony way ;)

Not to mention you can grab any video from Stage6 and just stick 'em into your PS3. :)

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that just looks like the diviex watermark you get when you used the free encoder

Hence why we're excited, the watermark means it's playing a divx encoded file.

Have you seen those DivX videos that have been converted to .MP4 or anything else and still has the watermark on it??

Man, I would LOVE it if DIVX worked on PS3. I bought a home DVD player just to have since it was cheap, and I've used that thing like crazy without even thinking about it. I'd much rather be able to download videos and load up Stage6 directly on my PS3 instead of having to burn a DVD every time I get something I want to watch (plus, I want to transfer all my old videos to digital, but AVC just takes forever to recompress and it's not supported on too many home players yet, so I don't know if that's the way to go.) It'd be a great new feature for PS3 if they add it, and I'd love to see it on PSP too if at all possible.

One problem, though ... the fact that this logo was seen in HOME doesn't prove that it's in. It's quite possible that the video that was playing in this HOME snapshot was from somebody's private collection, and was a PS3 video transcoded from DIVX to MP4 for PS3 (the re-encoding process often burns in a DIVX logo because of a clever but annoying feature DIVX built into the codec.) So, who knows, but it's sure be nice.

Yes, but Sony would have no reason to save it as a DIVX to begin with, nor would they use a free encoder. The logo is there intentionally.
