While lots of people want multiplayer modes for their games, sometimes having only single-player has its benefits. For Radical Entertainment, it's the promise of giving one heck of a solo campaign to be reckoned with. And for Prototype lead character Alex Mercer, what with his whole arsenal of powers, that's more than doable.
Senior producer Tim Bennison talked much about this line of direction they're taking Prototype, a game he says is "100% focused on a great single-player experience." He continues:
The game is an origin story that weaves a government conspiracy around the main character of Alex Mercer, and we really need to get those elements perfect.
The biggest benefit of focusing purely on single-player is the teamÂ’s ability to really maximize the over-the-top powers and abilities of AlexÂ’s shape-shifting and combat skills.
The first time a player throws a corrupt Blackwatch soldier into the blades of an attack chopper, we think theyÂ’ll have a big smile on their face.
Oh, I'm smiling already. Judging from the past couple trailers we've seen, Alex Mercer's got enough oomph to fight an entire army.
Now, this is something Bennison's actually already somewhat explained last year when he confirmed that Prototype wouldn't come with multiplayer. At least now, what with the game's release looming ever so close, he's willing to part with more details.
Radical Entertainment and Sierra Entertainment's Prototype is scheduled to be released this June for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
