I really like homebrew news! hopefully this leads to something useful.

Nobody here really cares about running some homebrew programs at all. The PS3 already runs Linux and that alone allows you to run a million fold of programs of what the homebrew community can come up with.



Only thing people are interested in is finding a way to run game backups. Nothing more, nothing less.

The linux on the ps3 sucks so bad. Its nothing like real linux. There is no RSX access. There owuld be no point in homebrew if there was access to the RSX but there isnt. If we can run homebrew from the PS3 OS then it just makes it so much more user friendly and maybe even RSX access :)

We dont even know if it causes bricks yet.

Well i hope this isnt fake, ive been waiting for real ps3 homebrew for some time. I dont like linux.

I hate linux, its the messiest ugliest OS I ever seen, and its buggs as hell on the PS3, it just none stop crashes. It takes to damn long to install. Not only that not every body wants to install it, or its to techinical for some people to know how to. I don't want it because I simply don't like it.



I want HOMEBREW and back-ups straight from the XMB. I like to test the games before I buy them, demos never give enough, If I like em I buy em, if I don't lets face it I keep em anyway until they are taking up to much space on my computer.



But I like homebrew as well, so its a broad statement to make that everybody who wants it from the XMB JUST wants back-ups they don't not everybody is techinically minded enough to know how to get linux installed or they just simply don't like it, just because you like it don't mean everybody does or should.

If homebrew appears on the ps3 it will ruin it like it did the psp.Piracy is rampant on the psp.It's already too expensive to develop on the ps3 and if piracy is widespread on ps3 the developers won't bother with the ps3.

So you don't have any issues following the complicated instructions of installing homebrew, and yet installing Linux is to difficult?



You just want to get free games and that's it. It's fine by me, but don't give me that whining crap of not knowing what to do. If you really wanted homebrew you would have dived into the huge collection of it availible for Linux on the PS3. You are just using Homebrew as an excuse to discuss warez. Nothing more and nothing less.

Homebrew on the PS3 would be a pain. If you don't update, then you can't access the internet. Plus insomniac could make a patch and you can't play Resistance without it, and I bet you if this is credible then Sony's already caught wind of it and will make an update which blocks it before any credible hello world homebrew script is written, so almost everyone will update their PS3s before this code is written, meaning they would need to make a downgrader or keep on updating that infectus thing, but who really wants to pay a bunch of money to buy that thing online, wait a week or two for it to ship, open up their PS3 and attach it to stuff, and then downgrade it just to play an old super nintendo emulator on their PS3? And like others said, ISOs would be a bad idea. It would mean less programmers on board with the PS3. It would suck to get ISOs though since each Game has 50GB you would have to download. They would have to make a bittorrent homebrew program for the PS3, because transfering that from a computer would be a complicated task unless you had a portable hard drive. Even after that, you would only be able to fit one game on your PS3, and that's only if you have a 60GB, 80GB, or an upgraded HDD. So let's see... You would need to buy an external hard drive, the infectus downgrader, and be constantly waiting somewhere around a month after each official update for a homebrew-style update before able to access the internet. Good luck with that, you guys. I think I'll stick with a legit PS3.

People are so cheap now a days. You say I want to "try out" the game b4 you buy it... But you know that you wouldnt buy a game at the store if you already have it for free lol, thats obvious.

If I like a game after I try it, I like to buy it so I got a collection. I done that all along. The problem is there are greedy people out there who don't buy them, and do just run off the copies.



Like I said above I do tend to keep them even if I don't like them though, just for something to go to when I get bored. When I need more space on my computer they get deleted.

The whole point is to stop this retarded hacking 5hit, How bout people learn to use there system for what it was meant for (not to be cheap and get free/old games). The PS3 is meant to play ps1, ps2, and ps3 games, Not gamecube or nintendo 64. And for the people who want to play those, find a damn nintendo 64 or gamecube and use it for what it was meant for.

But just like the PSP, we had our tricks to get around it. Do you honestly think we stuck around 1.50 and only played launch titles? Hell no. We swapped PRXs, .bin files, we had devhook and multiple other ways/attempts to get around it.



But in all honesty, I don't want the PS3 hacked. I'm content with it as it is...unless a CWCheat or some other app like custom themes that go beyond .p3t, but like said before: it will all just end up into an ISO loader that will probably cut back on the amount of good games coming to the PS3.

First off, I imagine someone would come to the rescue quickly with a devhook type program. Secondly, games are nowhere near the 50 GB size at this point in time. For example, many games on PS3 are also on the 360. That means the size has to be around 9 gigs, maybe a gig more if the devs took advantage of it.



You also have obviously never heard of the PS2 homebrew HDL Server. You can network to a ps2 and transfer games.



Stop being so negative. Homebrew developers are very resourceful people, and you can preach your opinion all you want, but that won't stop and of us, because the fact of the matter is, homebrew is around mainly because the devs see it as a new challenge to take on.

sometimes its just easier playin the iso to see if its worth it

why pay $79+(AUD) for a game and relise its crap.

I honestly will not steal PS3 games due to size and morality reasons... but I would LOVE being able to play nes, snes, etc without having to format my hard drive (I didn't do it when I first got my PS3, ah well)

Its like saying "I hate cars, they are the ugliest vehicles ever".



There are fifty billion versions and flavors of linux, each one completely different from the others, some amazingly easy to use and some impossible.



Please remember, "linux is a category, not an OS".

The PS3 uses fat32 for its file system. This means you can't have files over 4GB on it... Which means no pirated games.

We honestly don't need to boot unsigned code just to run ISO's ripped from retail games. The point of this is to open up the door to other things, like custom firmware, RSX access, Gaining complete access to all the SPU's, etc... Correct me if i'm wrong but it seems much more important having all the SPU's work as well as RSX access in order to run linux at normal speed, thus allowing us to run stuff like retail pc games. Yes I know people will want more and more but by the time we actually beat Sony with custom firmwares each time they update, we'll never see it. They learned their lesson, because PSP is practically opensource. PS3 going opensource would be a slap in the face. Homebrewing used to be underground. Now way too many people are involved in tinkering with consoles that it's gotten the attention of developers to start putting safeguards in to keep us out, to the point that companies like Sony have turned it into a fort knox.

Think about it, with all the ripkits and whatnot available for psp games nowdays, so many of the downloads are less than a gig, of course people will download them.
