Porsche lends a hand in NFS: ProStreet development

Electronic Arts' popular Need For Speed series has built its massive popularity around an arcade-style core philosophy which was more oriented with open-ended speed runs across streets than simulating the realities of motoring. With Need For Speed: ProStreet, the devs have taken a 180-degree turn and put the premium on realism than flash as this video indicates:

As seen in this video, the developers are not only overhauling the look to fit this generation of gaming, they also put on some extra effort into making the new physics engine the most accurate one in franchise history. Porsche lends them a hand and the hot cars have supplied all the data which need to be digitized.

In Need For Speed: ProStreet, players will have to race on closed tracks rather than open streets where cops await to nab you. Purists may cry foul over the changes, but let's try to calm down and let this hot-rod try and prove its worth.

back to roots, sorta

you said purists may cry foul... but the real purists (like me) stopped playing when NFS went from racing game to super car style workshop.. back to circuits!! maybe i can finally pick this series up again!

maybe

yeah. same here. i want to drive super sport cars - like mclaren f1, mercedes slk gtr, not tuned golfs or mazdas which i see every day no the streets here.

I completely agree with the above two posts!

NFS Underground 2 was the last half decent NFS game. Although NFS5 (known as Porsche Unleashed and Porsche 2000) still remains my favourite... Hurray for having Porsche collect the physics data which means more realistic Porsches :P Not sure how that would affect other cars with different handling characteristics, that would be the only downfall to only collecting data from one company. It does however keep costs down. It seems its the quick way to attempt to compete with GT lol.

hmm well

i was actually thinking of NFS3:HP as the last decent one.. but i never played porche unleashed... the jump to underground is what really set me off from the series.
