Polyphony Digital: GT5 to feature 10,000 cars

Around the start of July, Polyphony Digital studio head Kazunori Yamauchi hinted that Gran Turismo 5 would feature around 700 cars. But instead of throwing all of them together in the game's initial release, the studio was planning to gradually upload most of the vehicles as downloadable content.

Sony further added to this info earlier by stating that GT5's initial release will carry 340 cars. What makes this news startling is that the company further noted that a further 10,000 - yes, ten thousand - cars are expected to be available soon after the game launches.

Further adding to this already-staggering number, Polyphony also announced that for a special price, clients can also opt to have their very own cars developed (a bit like Forza Motorsport 2). An initial list is available over at the read link, although we'll be providing for a very small snippet here as well. Before you click on the link, you might want to put on your reading glasses - this could take a while.

WOW! I'll say it again.

10 *****ing thousand.

1,000 x 10 = 10,000.

ten + three 000 at the end.

11,000 - 1000 = 10,000.

ten, thousand.

MeMyselfandI (Unregistered) is right. This does look like part of a wish list from people from gtplanet.net. I hope that it is true and there are that many cars coming to GT5. That would be a big hit!!!

Posting a wish list as confirmed news? Jeez.. I guess its hard to ever have news on the PS3 site that isnt suckish but now you guys are making it up? Whats worse is your going to leave this article up forever so people will think its true. So when the game comes out and you have only like 40 cars to choose from you'll be damaging the games credibility, way to go.

Now they're just talking out their ass. Are they counting different paint schemes or tuning setups as seperate cars or something? The 340 number actually sounds realistic. They said it takes over a month to render each car. How long are they planning on adding more cars, and how dumb are the cars going to get? Do you want to race a 3 cylinder Geo Metro on a race track?

Will sony ever tell the truth?

Can it go back in time to 1996 when Gran Turismo was an impressive, technologically impressive game? You don't even get damage modeling unless you pay extra to download it!

The link for the source is dead already. This is a pure BS article and should be taken down. 10,000 is more like to be the cost in yen for new content then the number of cars.

GT4 had 714 cars, maybe they meant to say GT5 would have 1000?

GT5 is more technologically advanced than any other racing game. It's doesn't have car damage, but so what? I don't really want it, because it's much more fun without...

By the way, why do you always get 1 or 2 stars rating?

# ...Guest 2007-08-01 06:25
For GT5 it takes a month to develop a car, so it wouldn't be possible for it to have 1000...

didnt grand tourismo 4 have more cars than that. i think its perfect that you have to buy damage for your cars not everybody wants it. the whole idea of racing isnt seeing how much damge you can put into your car an experience driver would avoid that at all cost if you wanted a sim. 10000 seems a lot maybe they added a zero by accident 1000 cars seems a lot better thats way too much time to go through cars plus dude you never finished the 6 hr race in GT aspect 3 omfg never again.

This whole "paying to download damage" thing people keep whining on about is a bunch of crap.

Learn to read, then learn to think about what you've read. Then learn not to be such drama queens.

What Polyphony said was:

1. Damage modelling *could* be a downloadable feature

2. There will be downloadable content (cars/tracks/etc.) available for purchase after the game ships.

What they did *not* say was that all the downloadable content will cost money. It's quite likely, almost probable, that if a game feature like damage modelling is added after GT5 goes gold, it will be free.

You can have a cry about it if it somehow turns out not to be free. Until then, STFU.

# 10,000 cars is just 1,000 in 10 colours... :)Guest 2007-08-04 18:25
On behalf of GTCenter eu, we would like to apologize for the GT5 car list, it had turned out that the list that was sent to us was a fake and is not provided by Sony, but rather a mere Wishlist.
