Policenauts - Image 1It's been 13 years in the making, but now it's finally here. Yes, the 1996 Sega Saturn/ PS1/ 3DO original, Konami produced, Kojima-created Policenauts has finally completed its English localization process. Again, FINALLY.

See, when it was first released back in '96, a localization was promised then, however, it simply never pushed through, because according to the developers, they just could not synchronize the English dialogue with the original cutscenes. Thanks to technology today, however, that particular problem has just been successfully overcome.

The new localization project actually got a kickstart from a Something Awful member last year, when he started experimenting with inserting text into the game. Fast forward to today, you now have your patch for the PX version. No coincidence, the project team released it on Kojima's 46th birthday on the 24th this month.

The patch is now live, and weighs in at 7.9 megs, which you can download from five different sources. Meanwhile, Japan has been enjoying this game on the PSN since May of 2008. Maybe we can see it on Western PSNs soon as well?

Thanks to anon for the tip!

Maybe we'll finally see it on the PSN.

» Unlikely

We probably won't see this on PSN in any translated form. It has a cult, not mainstream, following which really is a shame for such a good game.

» FAT CHANCE!

We could forget about seeing an official localized Policenauts on the PSN. Localization has been long overdue dued to the circumstances listed in the atricle, and even if they were to not release it as a ps1 classic, but localize it now and release it as a PSN game in it's raw form, the gameplay and style wouldn't ride well with ppl's interest of modern day gaming. So be happy that this is an unofficial fan translation FINALLY released because I am.

I wonder how much the game goes for on ebay....

This translation has been in the works for ALOT longer than last year. Try several years (5 I think).
