PS3Good news for Sony fanboys and girls: production of the PlayStation 3 has begun! Apparently, Asustek Computers, considered one of the biggest computer components producer, has already shipped PS3 consoles to Sony. If this is true, it can only mean one thing: the November launch is pushing through (Yey!).

With the 200,000 component sets shipped to Asus in June, a small volume has already been assembled and shipped back to Sony early this month. The number of consoles to be built by Asus is said to increase as the launch date approaches, with September and October marking a shipment to Asus of more than one million component sets.

There have been no reports regarding Foxconn Electronics, which was also reported to help build Sony's next-generation console, receiving any PS3 component parts. Chinese newspaper Apple Daily writes that Foxconn will start assembly operations when demand rises.

Big woopie....

I don't really give a sh*t when they start production, the only thing that matters is that I can be able to get one at launch

by - 2006-07-19 06:20:27
so they are on 90nm with the Cell

so.... they didnt got it managed to produce it in 65nm... everybody that buys a PS3 doesnt need to pay for heating up their home anymore... Sony saved your heating bill LOL
by - 2006-07-19 06:20:36
Sony fanboys are crazy...

It's hilarious how Sony fanboys try to protect their precious Playstation :D
by - 2006-07-19 06:36:15
.

Cool, looks like launch shouldn't be a problem after all. 65nm wasn't planned until 2007. Doesn't really matter since Cell runs relatively cool anyway (very power efficient), but yeah, it would save production costs. Microsoft can't wait to move to 65nm either since it would increase their CPU yields as well. Can't wait for November! =)

Man

Too bad the PS3 won't overheat like the 360 and cause a meltdown.
by Vecha - 2006-07-19 10:20:35
what?

"Sony fanboys dont care Xbox fanboys are 13 year old kids who think they pwn halo Nintendo are just plain blind fanboys, mostly kiddies." So...sony fanboys are the only ones who are not a teenager? sure. all those fanboys "care" why do you think they flame so much? Sony makes a mistake. Ninty and M$ fanboys start laughing and sony fanboys begin to cry and scream about it. If any fanboy is "blind" I'd say sony fanboys are... hell even sony agrees with me...thinking a million consoles would be bought by their loyal blind fanboys without any games. Don't worry about me being a fanboy...i'm getting a ps3, along with a 360, and wii.

I like how if someone is just happy about news about the PS3 they're automatically called a fanboy even though the flamer doesn't know what systems they own or plan to buy. =P

no games WTF are you talking about no games , it will more games then the 360 had. sony said that they could sell 5 million ps3 even if they had no games. it was a comment about how loyal and big their fanbase is.
by - 2006-07-19 12:46:49
*sigh*

people have been jumping down Sony's throat about that "we could sell 5 million PS3's without any games" comment, and i've reached my breaking point. look at it this way: the PS1 and PS2 have sold 100 million units *each*. that's a gigantic consumer base. now, for the PS2, it also doubled as a DVD player. at the time, there were people that bought a PS2 *JUST FOR IT'S DVD PLAYING CAPABILITIES*. i know that's hard for us gamers to fathom, but not everyone that bought a PS2 bought it for the primary purpose of playing games (i bought it as a games machine, but i watch movies on it also, since my DVD player broke). out of a 100 million person installed userbase, i think Sony felt it was safe to say that 5 million of those people would buy a PS3 even if it didn't have games, because those 5 million people would be movie enthusiasts, and not games enthusiasts. sheesh. is that so hard to believe? here's another example: GTA: San Andreas sold around 10 million copies. so did Final Fantasy X, and Metal Gear Solid and God of War have high sales numbers also (lets guess a five million each). now here's the kicker: the group of people that love GTA are *NOT* the same group of people that love Final Fantasy, and are not the same group of people that love Metal Gear Solid and God of War. that's the type of thing that a 100 million installed user base will get you: diversity. adding up those 4 titles, we get 30 million people (remember, those numbers aren't 100% accurate, but they're pretty close), what about the other 70 million PS2 owners? they do other things with their PS2's as well as playing games. now, if Sony had said that 40 million people would buy a PS3 if it had no games, that'd be the epitomy of arrogance. 5 million is not an outlandish number (but i guess for the 25 million people that bought Gamecubes and X Boxes, 5 million out of 25 mill would seem rather large, and therefore, unrealistic. after all, that's a sizeable number of their audience. ooh burn!) that is all.
by - 2006-07-19 14:08:08
good news indeed.

Sony will catch up to the current competitor within their first year of release for sure. The competition will bring us some of the best game each console has to offer. I love it.

To the main man figboy

You kick ass man, every time i read a bum article here (which isn't all the time) I read the comments hoping to see what your input is and you never disappoint. Like I've said before, if figboy said it, then i support it!...as for you haters lay off figboy unless your lookin for a good old fashion arse wupin.

to 27, 28, and 29

27: i can't wait. i love the competition for the same reasons. MS is going to be forced to up it's game, which in turn will force Sony to up it's game, and so on and so forth, and us gamers will be the real winners. 28: lol. indeed, the truth does hurt. all the naysayers will be eating a lot of their feet come November 2006. and by the time 2007 is through, they'll be missing an entire limb. 29: Thanks! i just try to present my opinion based off of what i believe is fact, and i try to keep my personal preference out of it (i'm a big Playstation fan). the facts are, the PS1 and PS2 kicked a whole lotta ass, and it's hard to think that suddenly their brand will lose it's appeal because of it's price. if anything, the consumers that know their stuff will see what a value the PS3 is, and at $500/$600, it must be worth *something*. not many people will blindly shell out that kind of dough without first looking into what they're spending it on. i see a lot more positives than negatives when i look at the PS3, and i view it as a safe investment for me. after all, the PS1 and PS2 didn't let me down, so i'm expecting the PS3 to do the same. even if it does half as well as it's competitors, that's still 50 million units sold. 25 million units more than what it's competitors did last gen. the battle is going to be a very interesting one. since i plan on owning all 3 at some point, i'm going to be one happy gamer.

To them Fanboy Comments

mm. Well i'm 16 and I prefer Nintendo overall. Although i own every console ever made practically. At the end of the day... You buy your Nintendo for Zelda... You buy your Sony for Metal gear solid and you buy your XBOX if you don't have a decent PC =\
by - 2006-07-19 16:53:23
can i remember that far back?

i'm 27, and have been playing Nintendo games since 1985. i guess you can say i'm burned out on them, and they no longer have the volume of games i want to play on their consoles (basically, i only like Zelda, Smash Bros, and Metroid Prime. any multiplatform games i get on a Playstation for the most part). i guess i've grown up, and the games that appealed to me when i was 8 and 9, don't do it for me now that i'm an adult. i was introduced to the Playstation when i was 15/16, and i was really skeptical, i mean, didn't Sony make CD players? why the hell were they trying to get in on Sony's turf. then i played Tomb Raider and Resident Evil and i was hooked. before that time, i had never experienced games that spoke to my intellect. i was used to very light, child-like games (Squares RPGs being more in the teen category), but no more. i never realised i had a desire for those "mature" types of games until i experienced them. and then when Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill came out, as well as Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, i was converted, and Nintendo felt, i dunno, *tame* from that point on. and whenever it seemed like they were being "edgy" it just came off as feeling forced and unnatural to them. Nintendo does what they do well, and they should keep to that, but it's not enough for me anymore. at least with a Sony console, they offer me a broad range of entertainment options across all the genres that interest me (pretty much everything but sports and certain types of platformers). i also own practically every console ever made (at least the ones worth owning): NES, SNES, Genesis, Playstation 2 (i gave my PS1 to my friend because hers was broken), Dreamcast, Gamecube, and X Box. i also own a PSP (i used to own a GBA; two actually. but one was stolen, and i gave the SP to my nephew because i just didn't play it). and i own a relatively decent PC (i can play games like Oblivion, Prey, and F.E.A.R. on practically maxed out settings) there was no point to this post other than to list my credentials for the curious, and that i'm not some pimply faced teenager talking out of my ass (no offense to pimply faced teenagers that don't have pimples or talking asses).

Shweet

I'd be one of those people to buy a ps3 without games... If the thing supports homebrew and has a web browser then hot damn! I could be playing pretty much every previous generation game. I'm definately not buying PS3 for a coupla months, I don't wanna get burned on some crazy defect and wanna wait for a strong PS3 homebrew seen to develop XD
by - 2006-07-19 21:39:35
game on

I hope to see you guys all on Playstation 3 Live.

Or for Halo, since it blows on PC.
by - 2006-07-20 02:52:56
PS3 with homebrew?

not without mod-chip i think the linux the PS3 uses is only for interacting the games with the Hardware. the PS2 also has a Linux core for the software. just like the xbox1 is useing a win2k kernel for easier programming. if you want to get everything out of the hardware you have to use ASM without useing the linux kernel. (like better looking games do) so i guess: no homebrew for PS3 without a chip
by - 2006-07-20 05:25:11
Hombrew posssible

Sony stated you will be able to create your own applications on the system, and im sure since the ps3 will be hacked anyway, remember the unhackable 1.5 firmware psp?!! I dont think people are mad enough to mod their ps3 anytime soon and void their warranty!
by - 2006-07-20 06:31:17
asus

hopefully the *****tyness of Asus computers wont come out in the ps3...

on PS1 and PS2 you also have been able to make your own games... with an editor you had to buy... and with crappy gfx I think it is gonna be the same on PS3

To figboy

I read somewhere that you are a game tester, am I right? How do you become one, and what if you only want to do it from home? I'd appreciate it if you tell me!
