PlayStation Network doing well: at 1.5 million users already

PlayStation Universe reports that at Sony Gamers Day it was announced that over 1.5 million users have created accounts for the still growing PlayStation Network.

It was noted that of the 1.5 million, 775,000 are people from North America. However, it wasn't made clear if these were for individual a PS3s, as some people could have multiple accounts for differing regions. It was also noted that an impressive 6 million pieces of content have been acquired from the PlayStation Store. Again, it wasn't provided what ratio of this was free content or paid content.

Lastly, 1.5 million users have logged in a total of 115 million times. This means that there's an average of 77 log-ins per PS3 owner. That means that there's either a lot of people on Resistance: Fall of Man multiplayer, or a lot of people really like flOw.

We'd like to include the noted 6 month comparison with Xbox Live, but that's just flame-bait. Anyhow, with numbers like these, and the promise of Home come fall, and more big multiplayer only games like WarHawk and small casual shooters like Bacterius, things look good for the network.

Oh, and two reasons why this is included in PSP: 1st you can can PS1 games for your PSP on the PSN, and 2nd, we all hope PSN incorporates the PSP more, don't we?

Make sure you have alternate email addresses, and supply the PSN registering procedure with addresses in each of the other countries.

(american or canadian address for the US account, and another one in Asia for the Japanese account).

Pay attention though:

1) Your european VISA card cannot be used for transactions in those accounts

2) There is no guarantee that Sony will let people keep on doing this forever. So, if you do charge an american wallet for example, Sony may at any time close your fake US account and keep your money.

The home address cannot be changed once registered.

You can, however, create additional users on your PS3, and register those differentely under PSN.

Note: DO NOT activate your PS3 under those accounts, only under the main, true account.

Great to see online gaming doing so well, hopefully the Wii can pickup it's act. For those 2 million PS3 owners and 4 million 360 owners that aren't connected, PLUG IN YOUR ETHERNET CABLE NOW! Of course $ony will keep letting people set up multiple accounts in multiple regions. That will help make it seem like there are more registered users on PSN and make it seem like it's catching up to XBOX live.

Everyone knows you can sign up for multiple accounts (even says how to here.) That just leaves people to wonder how many memberships are for the same console. Since one console cannot play multiple games online and could have only one user, if that console has accounts set up in 3 regions, the 1.5 million number is very misleading. PS3 sales have not gone up (have actually gone down significantly), game releases are not up. This number is clearly bogus. The only 2 decent online games are still resistance and motorstorm.

The PSN is trailing waaayyy behind live and even exaggerated PSN membership numbers aren't impressive.

6 million XBOX live paid subscriptions out of 10 million consoles, 60% of 360 owners online. 600,000-1,600,000 FREE PSN accounts out of 3 million consoles, 53-20% on PSN. PSN numbers are obviously inflated. There's only 2 games to play but at least they're free, right?

The 6 Milion Xbox live accounts include both gold AND silver memberships. Not all 6 million are paid accounts. And of course the Xbox has more. They have had over 18 months to join while the PS3 has had only 6 months. And right now, the PSN is not available to all regions. And no, there are much more than only 2 games that are online....

I know what x box fully offers and it doesn't offer much. The PS3 will easily match it and blow it away with home. Besides PS3 reached its 1 million mark in late june through februrary. X Box live blows. Can't even play a game online without paying for it.

Questions: Why do so many people hate the PS3?

Answer: Because they know by next year it will own the 360 and weeee. Everyone keeps saying it has no decent library, the online is inferior to live, and it just sucks.

Well I say give it time. The X Box has a large library yeah, but no variety, what doe it have really? A bunch of shooters, Halo and Gears. Out of the games Halo is the one worth getting. The PS3 has a bunch of games lined up to come out this year. And it has variety, it has shooters, plus every other genre of games to choose from. Ps3 can also support a hell of a lot more people online, unlike the sex box, and at no cost.

And what makes this even funnier is that yes the PS3 is not selling as much as the 360 and Weee (for now), but they are both being out sold by the PS2. It's funny as hell that 1 console from last the gen is out doing and out matching the current gen, and it doesn't even have an online community like these.

Got my PS3 FREE with a mobile fone deal, I had 2 pay £180 for the fone (Sony Ericsson W810i best fone of last year)

Also got an amazing 32" HDTV from Evesham for £449 (1 of the best I've seen) so th@'s £630 oh & Oblivion off Amazon with free HDMI cable so another £40.

So if u need a new fone contract like I did then less than £700 a new fone, PS3 with game & lead & HDTV is hard 2 beat.

Not trying 2 sound smug (tho feel it a li'l bit) but if this helps people get a PS3 then they should do it.
