PlayStation Home: PS3 FW 2.5, Home 1.0 hinted; closed beta extended

A strange turn of events today on the PlayStation Home front. Via PS3Fanboy, we just heard from a PlayStation Home manager that the service might finally go live this October (?), with an accompanying PS3 system firmware update to version 2.5.

The reply you see below is what TedTheDog, Home Manager, gave to someone who was asking about certain freezing problems they encountered in the beta. TedTheDog explained that the PS3-freezing bug would be dealt with by the time the next firmware update rolls out. "2.5 is what we're waiting for," he says, "and 'October' is what I've heard." Check out the screencap of the Home Manager's post:

The interesting bit, of course, is when he mentions "Home 1.0." Could this be the public release? Well, whatever the case may be, it looks like PlayStation Home is rapidly moving towards a full release soon.

Thanks to Darkshneider and JollyRoger for the tip!

Meanwhile, in other (more official) matters, PS Home director Jack Buser announced today that the closed beta period has extended. Meaning, if you haven't received an invite, you might want to check your inbox again soon - they're sending out more to those who've applied!

Finally!!! I got an invite to the closed beta. However, if an open beta follows the closed beta there is no way in hell of an October release.

So I finally get in right at the end. Gee, that's friggen great! Better then a kick in the ass I guess :)

Won't that just be for singstar? A friend of my dad's uncle's cousin's dog walker works for Sony and that's the memo that I found when I sneaked into his house and looked on his computer said.

# DAVID REEVES COMMENT ON PS2 BC EARLIERrudio99 2008-09-20 03:12
***David Reeves has reportedly told a german website that the old SingStar games will run via software emulation which is coming in a future firmware update. These games will run without the need of a PS3 singstar and Sony are also considering what other titles are worthy of selective updates for backwards compatibility** *

I really don't think Sony would release a laggy emulator!

If they release a software emulator for a game series to run on PC then hackers will reverse engineer the system to access the emulator core and make it run other ps2 games. I guarantee it. This is probably already been thought of though and Sony most likely doesn't consider loss of ps2 game sales to affect their bottom line for the ps3. Standy by though if this happens because it's basically Sony giving away the source to their emulator engine. I don't understand how it could be laggy though. Look at the PSone emulator for PSP. It runs just about every game without any problems or speed issues. The ps3 is miles ahead of ps2 in ratio to the psp being only slightly ahead technology wise against the ps1. It resembles the capabilities of the ps2 but has much less texture capacity since the cpu is scaled down in power.
