PlayStation Home Closed Beta starts May 1, 2007 - Image 1

It's been a quick brushfire rumor just a couple of hours back that European PlayStation Network users started whispering about getting into a closed Beta trial of PlayStation Home. Plenty of people were skeptical at first, especially with pretty cheesy screen captures of the PlayStation Home interface.

But eventually, it seemed that more news about it came up, saying that European PlayStation fans claimed to be selected to take part in the first batch of Beta testers. And then, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) dropped the hydrogen bomb, stating in an official press release that the PlayStation Home Closed Beta period starts today (May 1), and left the rest of the PlayStation fans (those who weren't invited) from other regions drooling. (And us crying.)

It appears that being in the same region as the developers who are working on the PlayStation community software has its advantages. PlayStation Network users in Europe get to try out the software first-hand before the rest of the regions follow suit thereafter as the Beta progresses onward through the summer. Surprisingly, Sony follows through with their PlayStation Home timetable after all, missing the April deadline by a hair's width.

Personally, I hate the ps3, but I do think the idea of Home is pretty cool. Hope to hear how it is shaping up.

» sucks

sony always puts stuff in europe first (except for the PS3 launch)

by Supreme3x - 2007-05-01 14:24
» it does suck but...

Home is being developed by Sony Europe so naturally and unfortunately they're giving first dibs to the people in their region. I can't wait for the beta to open up in the U.S. though.

» reason:

1 why are you here in the first place?

2 video games were primarly ment for children

3 u need jesus christ in your life (like me) because you so far look like you hate life, people, and the world...so who's the trash again? think whats really needed in your heart besides hate...

» I smell a loser.

Yep, you my dear friend are a loser, seriously, ever heard of entertainment?

That's what games are, they are a form of entertainment, just like listening to music, watching movies, or reading a book.

So how about get of your high horse chill out and have some fun, that's what life is for and you only get one chance at life, otherwise you'll be dead before you even know it.

» Just so you guys know...

We deleted the long but totally unrelated comment about gaming addicts. As much as we appreciate the comments we get from our readers, we hope that you guys stay on topic. Thanks, :)

» Europe only?

Well the invite I recieved (the original sign up email the other day) was addressed to U.S. customers. So I dont see how it will only be for Europe. Doesnt make sense, if so why send out that email to begin with?

by Quixand - 2007-05-01 15:57
» US supposed to be first???

can you explain why?

and i thought you guys said the japanese were the egotistic ones.

by mentalboy11 - 2007-05-01 16:19
» eh

The US and Canada will start for sure in the First Week of May. Once SCEE gives SCEI approval to send out the comfirmation e-mails.

Same here, I've been checking everyday and it still says today to keep checking back. This is dissapointing if we haven't even been able to apply, never mind be chosen.

» i understand now

i went to the sony press release site and they say its not the sign up beta test yet heres what they say

"Starting with an initially small group of both internal staff and known beta testers, the test will be opened up to many others at some point during the summer, including those registered on www.homebetatrial.com."

so its not the beta we were expecting its the one for sony staff and OFFICIAL beta testers but i still duno y ppl are going round saying they are testing it theres nothing for them to test till summer and also was anybody able to sign up to homebeta trial.com because there has never been any sign up thing on there

» uh-oh

US first? what in fairness does that means?

tsk i smell greediness!

i say simultaneous worldwide beta!

though usually japan gets everything first by few hour to few months due to location on earth time coordinates and place of software creation.

Your have to have a account for the Playstation underground site. It is like joining a beta game for SOny. They send you out a invitations to your email and ask if you like to be apart of their beta trials. I receive a message like that. I'm was part in Beta Trials for some SOny games and now I hope to be in this beta too.

» dumbass

It amazes me how anyone can "hate" a gaming system. You need a life.

Home is pretty cool, as well as other Sony offerings. Get off the kool-aid and check it out.

I got email from SCEE saying there is no beta invites left!

» peeeerick

you dozy yank tw@t! how can you say that, you dumb rednecks usually get everything first!

why should europe have to wait a few months to see a new movie when you numbnuts saw it months ago!

the film studios wonder why their films are being downloaded over the internet for free!!!!!!!!!

if i could have downloaded an illegal us ps3 i would of, rather than wait for sony to deem europe fit for release!

by saoshi - 2007-05-02 10:01
» ballbags!

that cant be right! if they are saying europe is getting it first, then it cant be because of your playstation underground account, as you are not allowed to have an account unless you live in the states, yet another dumb yank idea!
