Breaking News: Firmware 3.00 for the PS3 is already out! This we found out from the many tipsters that sent in their tips to our site. Go on, see for yourself and click on that UPDATE button on your XMBs.Thanks to all of you guys!

*UPDATE*
Reports are now trickling in as to what the said Firmware update brought in for the PS3 community. But some of the new features are the animated/dynamic backgrounds, which are now usable for your themes. PS news also appears to be more easily accessed, and the trophies now have the ability to earn you add-ons.
Noticeable too, though, is the reported speed up in the trophy list load time. Seems like they've fixed it up to get it to load faster and smoother.

I just changed my main DNS to 4.2.2.2 and my second DNS to 4.2.2.3 and it works now.
You guys might want to do the same for now.
Except it's shiny and has 3 playstation store icons. (Video, Games icon added) and the new friends list... no functionality was lost and the new look is kinda sweet in my opinion.
the huge gray boxes around every users name, and the fact that there are no new avatars or that the ticker cant be turned off?
but the big gray boxes really bug me for some reason. and the inflated buddy icons...remember how the size of the names of the people on your buddy list kind of became smaller unless you highlighted them? that was nice, now those huge boxes take up my whole screen and there really is no point in having a wallpaper. the xmb just doesnt look sleek anymore
3.0 sucks! I don't like the gigantic fonts and the advertisement on the top right corner. I do like the blur background though.

Grabbed the animated lbp theme that was in the PS store, but after some surfing my slim froze completely when exiting the web navigator. Can you say embarrassing ?
And yeah, I'm in 1080p and the fonts are just too big, and those boxes are fugly.
Oh well, bring on the next update...

They took a big dump on the ps3, seriously. Sony must be having a huge laugh hehe....blank gray space..omg!! awesome. And the what's new is awesome, I love shortcuts KEEP EM COMING!!!! I love you sony thanks for not showing the friends list, it was a big surprise ;O. I had a great laugh at this lol....but seriously sony lay of the crack and give us something good and stop screwing things up...plz......
I knew it'd be disappointing but this update was pretty much purely cosmetic. Nothing was added that aids in the communication or playability of game titles. If anything, this update probably just gave devs more tools (like the trophy organization) and is laying the ground for more features in subsequent updates.
Remember how 2.0 was similar in this regard, and then 2.40 brought in in-game XMB and soundtracks, as well as trophies.

Ruins the whole look of the XMB every time it pops up. It's purely ads. At least Microsoft's content ads are blended into the menus. These just pop out to make sure you see their ads.
And the What's New is the first thing you see, again littered with ads, and it ruins the theme just as bad as it turns the entire background straight blue.

Has anyone figured out, how this so called "trophy organization" actually works? I read that it separates base-trophies from DLC-trophies. But will it be just applied to new games or older games as well?

its really nice but i preferred the old boot music it was more peaceful than this, also i like whats new you can jump right into the games you recently played and for the grey boxes everybody is complaining about well remember sony saying your trophies will not go unshown or something well there u go its probaly for the trophies to be displayed there and it does have the right abount of space anyways awesome update rlly like

the avatars though you have a point but I dont understand why we cant have custom avatars other than maybe because of inappropriate pics. but ffs how many adults use consoles nowdays and its not like these kids couldn't go on their pc or even ps3 using the internet connection they have and see that ***** anyway.

I like this update, i can say now that I will enjoy the surfing the web on my ps3 browser for the fact that now you can save images and screenshots directly from the ps3! Thats cool! (=
Good news for those of us in the UK - iPlayer now built in as standard. Sweet.
I downloaded the update last nite and tried it out this morn... and it seems snappier, less icon loading etc.
this was a total let down!!!

if you don't like the gray boxes try having a white or light colored background as your wallpaper, then maybe it might be appreciated more... though I guess they could stand to modify it a little. Like instead of having gray boxes for every friend on the list, just have the box for the currently selected friend.
Awesome update!!! I feel like I have a new ps3 it runs smoother and faster than before. XMB looks great...cant wait to purchase some animated themes. XBOX kiss this one eh! I am confident the PS3 will be victorious in this competition against the 360 and it's 54% failure rating.....LMAO!!

I can no longer listen to mp3's while navigating the xmb or internet browser. When ever i press home, it says 'Would you like to quit playback?'. my friend does not have this problem. though i have the bbc player, he doesn't.
...is not that they change small cosmetic things every now and then. What bugs me is that we have no possibility of changing it back to what it was before. Who the hell came up with the bright idea to clutter up the Friends menu with horrible gray boxes everywere? WHY? It absolutely doesn't look good, it doesn't get easier to see the status of the person, it takes up 60 percent of the screen size and it's irreversible! WHY???
And why do files/folders disappear from the list when you highlight some other file? It's just stupid.
Blurring the background could be useful, but what if I don't want it? I have no ability to disable the graphic feature.
And what about the scroll indicator that's been added? I have over 2000 songs on my PS3 and if I want to scroll all the way down to a certain song (without grouping them otherwise), I can't go there immediately. BUT! They were nice enough to give me a scrolling indicator just so I can see how far it is left to go before I reach the bottom files.
How about just adding a menu in Theme called "Advanced Graphic Settings" where we can modify our XMB's icons to our own needs? Let's say I don't own any BR movies or at least don't want to see the BR Data icon all the time (not to mention PS Store five zillion times in the XMB) - wouldn't it be nice to manually disable/hide the icon?
Nice with the copypaste function in-text though, thanks. But it always feels like Sony keep pushing in new features and settings without making the previous ones function first.
Horrible, I hated it. Those damn store icons under the game and video menu really pissed me off but perhaps even more annoying was that i cant disable that damn scrolling text at the top. DONT UPGRADE.
I agree with all the hate on this. You can't honestly tell me those gray boxes are easy on the eyes. Yuck. How can you avoid not updating though? Isn't it a necessity to go online?
Got the 80gig n after updating to 3.0 n playing Grand theft auto the system cut off and wouldn't turn on all it does is goes green then yellow then blinks red.

this is the only problem ive found on the update.....when u click on the "whats new" icon itll take a while for it to stop buffering then itll buffer every 2 seconds

I'd like to disable the statusbar as well, yeah. I don't need to see how many people are online, I could do that by just manually walking to the Friends section. I don't need to know what account I'm logged into, I see that already by the choice of background and theme settings. Oh, that, and the fact that most people only have one account they use regularly on their PS3s.
How about dynamic statusbars that show only when something new has happened, such as new messages or someone has logged in and the "five friends online"-part changes to "six friends" just for a few seconds and then disappears?
Really don't see the big issue from the update, granted I haven't updated it cause don't care about logging on to the PSN atm, but some people are crying as if they know what FW are about. Most of the time it's for developers, not the user. This update seemed to be more of a 1 step update. Being they rolled it out, got feedback from the users and can not tweak and fix some minor things.
I think the gray boxes some of you see on the friends list are meant to be shown when having dynamic themes and when they full integrate the trophy addition. I think they didn't have everything in place yet but wanted immediate feedback from it, so they released it early. It isn't uncommon for site developers or console devs to do something like this. I'm sure we'll be seeing 3.01 patch soon enough. So relax.
I like most of the cosmetic changes EXCEPT the psn logos everywhere, and the fact that they removed the ps3 chime thing lol when you start a game..it made me sad..>.> but I also noticed it wont show any music in folders off my external hdd anymore...o well sony just gave themselves a whole bunch of work to do.
Probably the best feature of the new update. Shake your sixaxis on the xmb and watch the sparkles fly. Woo Hoo!!!
