Sony PlayStation 3 - Image 1There's an ongoing discussion underway over at the Official PlayStation Europe forum threads, and it pertains to the possible release of the PlayStation 3's firmware 1.81. This point was brought up by thread member Stoshy the other day, when the thread poster contacted Sony regarding a display problem. Going into the details of the post :

After the last update we had, i changed the display setting to RGB full, lovely, rich colours and blacks....great. The problem i notice now is this, when i power up the machine the screen is back on the limited colour setting although if i look in the display setting it still says full!

Follow-up Stoshy's call to Sony's PS hot-line, the company later called back, and indicated that they already knew about the display problem, and that a new firmware was being prepped and readied. The date of this new firmware's release? Either Thursday (June 14), or Friday (June 15). That's all for the moment - it doesn't appear that the new firmware is expected to fix the previously reported PAL compatibility issues that were missed for firmware 1.80. Keep posted in case we hear Sony's official word on the matter.

» The Waiting Game

Its such a shame, im getting board of waiting for all these games and new firmware to come out but the future looks bright ! but it dose make me wonder about the XMB issue, as i cannot access the xmb during game play on my psp and the psp has been out for 2+ years so is it gonna be possible on the ps3? Lets just all hope so. If XMB access was possible then the options would be amazing ie-- Listening to your music stored on your hard drive while playing your favorite game--also having private chat , and answering those messages when your in the middle of that hard level your on .... btw that really pisses me off, when i see my friend leave me a message at the moment i just ring him up on the phone when really i should be able to just press this famous ps buttone and interact!!!! The main reasons sony are holding back on these options is HACKERS, if people choose to hack there consol then they will miss out on the new options i will be the first to admit that i run custom firmware on my psp but only because the psp sucks with out it, but i would never hack my ps3 as its a very special bit of kit and a cheap blueray player.

HAPPY DAZE to come i hope

There was nothing missed from firmware 1,80. Kotaku are talking out their asses. Stop posting their crap, and concentrate on real news...

I have 4 games that were added to compatability in 1.80, among them, SSX3, DOA etc.

» 24Hz "On" option please ...

I'd like to see a 24Hz "On" option added for Blu-Ray playback (in addition to the Auto and Off modes).

Reason being I have a Samsung M87 LCD which can handle a 1080p24 signal. Unfortunately the TV's EDID does not indicate this so the PS3 won't output at 24Hz.

Stop freaking out. Its only 1.81. That means its a MINOR update. Stuff like xmb access won't appear unless its like 1.9 or 2.0

» doubt it

theyll have 1.81 as the monthly update.......just watch

PS3 owners are just now able to go to a menu during gameplay. Way to slack behind the 360 Sony, Sad really considering the fact that the360 has nearly been out for 2 years know.
