PlayStation 3: Next FW update and DivX support coming soon |
Ó
Last month, DivX Inc. sent out the good news that they were planning to upgrade the Sony PlayStation 3 console with DivX technology. That aside, they didn't state when this update would arrive, which brings us to today's new snippet.
The company has hinted that the support would be available with the PS3's next firmware update; the FW itself is expected to arrive very soon. It actually makes sense, given that the PS3's next patch will also reportedly carry inter-connectivity functions for BD-Live Blu-ray movies.
This new firmware looks to be one for the moviegoers and videophiles indeed. That's all the information we've got for the moment, drop by again in case new updates turn up.

+1 for the PS3
I'll be able to sop converting all my movie
I hope the ps3 will also read xvid... (not sure about this tought...)
cool anyway
i know im probably stupid and i just realized this but did anyone realize xvid is divx backwards? lmao i know im slow but hey
It should read xvid, but if it doesnt, just change the FourCC code to Divx, should work just fine.
Also...yes, we all knew it was divx backwards...that was kind of the point.
haha koolaid you made my day.
I am hoping that we will be able to watch DivX movies streaming from our PCs as on the 360 its utter uselessness unless you have a PC with either Media Centre or Vista on.
And hopefully it will work well and not feel like a tacked on extra feature.
my ps3 streams video just fine already, using windows media player!!!!!
XviD is an open source alternative to DivX, created from archived code when DivX when commercial
360 streams fine with media player as well, not sure what you are sniffing pugton...
It should be similar if not identical to how the 360 handles divx, so yes it should play xvid as well as 360 does....
the update will be on the 18th. Can't confirm, yet though.
Then why when I insert my data disks full of avi container files they don't work?
