Wireless TV-out comes to the PC... via the PS3 - Image 1

Sometimes I wonder if the PlayStation 3 could still rightly be called just a video game console, with all the stuff it can do. It's a Blu-ray player. No, it's a TV DVR box. No, it's... a PC-TV intermediary? This new program from DisplayShare allows the PS3 to connect wirelessly to your PC, allowing it to stream data directly to your TV.

The program, available for 50 bucks, can stream both video and audio. You can also modify settings to capture only a part of the screen - useful for watching YouTube. It's a a nifty little app, if not exactly the most useful. I can't imagine a lot of situations where I can use it, unless the office projector suddenly conks out.

You can visit the source link for the official site.

» No Tversity dosen't

This is NOT a media player It puts your desktop on your playstattion. That means you can use VLC player and watch ANY type of media file on your PS3. Maybe even play games, TVersity is something completly different. IF you don't want to pay for it don't complain just torrent it like the smart people do.

Yeah and i'm dumb, if i really need to watch a soccer game on my LCD TV retard, and i doubt i would, i can pick up the remote that came with it and put it on the soccer game. And for the record if i really need to then i can extend my windows over to my LCD TV, which is possible nowadays and extend my windows to do just about anything.

» Torrents

there are no torrents as of yet, and i was on their site already its only currently available for PS3 with Xbox and Wii's coming late 2009, they do have a free trial which i have just tried and its seems to be okay but still not worth 50.00 sorry just my opinion when like i said all you have to do is extend your windows to your TV as long as your TV isn't to far from your PC

» or

I could just install linux for free right on your PS3, I'm just saying. There's always a better way than using windows at all. Windows is for people too lazy to use Linux. Or like wasting money every 2-3 years. Get ready for Windows 7!!

» What da dumb assassin

If your watching a program using sopcast/TVUplayer then its highly likely you wouldn't have that program on a regular TV channel.

I have hundreds of movies on my PC upstairs that I can watch on my TV downstairs wirelessly without having to do anything other than install this program.

by sosrandom - 2009-01-13 13:20
» VNC

So basically a VCN type program.

by erikbirk2 - 2009-01-13 14:51
» yep

exactly what i was going to say. ill pay a couple bucks for a new cord over 50 for a dumb program for sure.

by darknaiyo - 2009-01-13 15:11
» .....

then does it play also mkv. files?

by sycoblast - 2009-01-14 03:24
» fail to see the point

i just think its awesome that we have such features available now lets say we want to do our work on our television using word lets say, i think thats the purpose of the program, i mean not everyone wants to use linux.

What if my PC is upstairs? How the hell can I use the video-out when

my HDTV is downstairs? I'll use the PS3 as the middle man and TVersity can't do that. That's the point you and others here missed completely.

Sometimes you have to think about other people besides yourself to really be helpful.

» $50? WTF?

$50 for a VNC? Way not worth it.

I for one use the same TV for PC, PS3 and 360 so no need for me.

If you want to use a console to watch TV via the PC then get a 360 and use Media Center.

As for the PS3 VNC then thats nice but way not worth $50. I'll buy it for $5 or I'll torrent it for anything higher.

Watching movies from the net, can already be done via the internet browser on the PS3, TV via the 360, movies via WMP11, so what is the real need for the high price? All those are already free so why pay for them now?

» Use PlayON instead

You should check out PlayON from MediaMall Technologies. Its free for 14 days while its in beta. A new beta release re-sets the timer, so you get another 14 days. If you are so inclined, you can pay a 1 time $30 fee.

It is just about to get released. Its very stable and very nice. It streams HULU, CBS, YouTube, ESPN, CNN and NetFlix.

Simply install it on your PC and the PS3 or any other DLNA device will discover it. (XBOX360, some DVR's are also DLNA compliant)
