Phil Harrison: PlayStation Home griefing, more Home details

In an interview with Three Speech, Sony's Phil Harrison addressed certain points about social interaction and controlling their negative effects, including flaming, questionable banter and sexual innuendos. "Griefing," as most would like to call it, is a negative issue that comes hand-in-hand with the clashing of personal opinions and cultural diversity.

PlayStation Home - Image 1So what does Sony have up their sleeves? They've got eyes everywhere, and they're watching your every move! Jokes aside, Sony has everything planned up for grief control, including strict (and possibly real-time?) monitoring of complaints and issues, including drawing up a comprehensive and "robust" grief inventory forum where these issues can be addressed.

Because collision detection has been removed from Home, physical griefing will be non-existent, leaving anything and everything verbal open to abuse. If you really cannot help be infuriated against someone, Sony will be giving you the "Be gone!" button and remove the guy from your screen. Easy as one, two, flee!

But since we're talking about getting choosy about what to see, you could go all the way and change the virtual world you're viewing currently. Just download the purchased background content you want to view, and you can get to customize it in "some unique and charming ways."

Unfortunately, control of Sony will be absolute, so creative user content will be minimal. After all, Home is a game-related community and shouldn't be compared Second Life as some outsiders have done. Envy aside, we can all enjoy a breather from fast-paced next-gen games every once in a while, much thanks to Sony and Linden Labs.

» does this mean?

XBox will win console war? highly unlikely?PS3 is just getting started on its software side of the plan microsoft is slowly fading there sub par online service is good but i belive that Home will be much better. Sony will use its console to its full potential. it was said that sony's console technology is ten years ahead of what was expected. Enuff said

» PS3 is firmly in LAST place and Home will be beaten if needed

LOL Do you really think if MS think this is some sort of threat to them that they will not have teams working round the clock on something better? DREAM ON.

And the PS3 is getting started ! maybe but the trouble is people are not buying them enough, the 360 is constantly selling and the Wii just constantly sells out so I would wait until Christmas before you can go by any figures but one thing is certain it will be the PS3 with the lowest sales..

MS is so deep in ***** they couldnt find theyre way out even if they bleed more green into development.

they have made their choices, expensive online, crappy HW... there is no going back, they have missed the train..

all they do now is talking smack about the competition and marketing, viral naggy n00b style.

Just like true loosers behave

"LOL Do you really think if MS think this is some sort of threat to them that they will not have teams working round the clock on something better? "

yeah like what?, the elite? lmao

good way to further distance yourself from the customers wtg. lol.

but seriously though, if the ps3 got a little fanboy like you scared just imagine whats going through peter moores head lol (pun intended)

» cool!

thats reassuring, to say the least... one can only hope its well implimented though... I mean, having one person pestering you is one thing, but when that one person is pestering you whilst your in a group of people and not all of them want to block him, problems arise... meh...

the non collision thing is probably useful insofar as you wont be able to get in peoples way and vice versa, but some physical interaction woud be cool... like the macros you see in FF11 or WoW...
