Fallout 3 by Bethesda Softworks planned for an Autumn 2008 release - Image 1One of the bigger titles to hit gamers next year definitely has to be Bethesda Softworks' Fallout 3 (PC, Xbox 360, PS3). This is why people love squeezing as much information about the game as they can from Pete Hines, Bethesda's Vice President of Public Relations.

While the game won't be seeing a release until Autumn of next year, Hines mentions that production for all three platforms are coming along pretty well. Although there was a preference towards the Xbox 360 because the developers enjoy using the dev tools available on the console.

One of the biggest differences with the sandbox environment of Fallout 3 and Oblivion was the fact that Fallout 3 will be a little bit more restrictive in terms of how "open" the players can roam around the world. However, due to the number of different endings for Fallout, there's more than enough room for replayability.

He also gave a nod in the direction of ZeniMax Online Studio, the new company responsible for setting up Bethesda's MMORPG projects. Hines says that it will be a while before ZeniMax will be revealing anything about their plans for an online version of any of their games.

Finally, Hines noted the amount of detail their visuals team put into creating a very convincing post-apocalyptic feel into the game. He had this to say on the matter:

For the outdoor stuff, it's definitely really difficult to render that kind of destruction. But for us the big benefit is, on this generation of technology that incorporates both the two new consoles as well as the stuff we're doing now on PC with DX 9 and DX 10. This is another go-around for us on those things.

In any case, this sequel to the epic RPG series will something that gamers will be keeping their eyes out for next year. Hopefully, we'll be seeing a lot more content from Bethesda in the coming months. Until then, stay tuned to us for more updates.

flamebait

that's a misleading title.. nowhere in the article does it state the 360 as being a leading console for fallout 3... merely that the developers prefer using the 360 dev kits... which has been taken as the norm in loads of previous titles.... whilst a preference was stated, the title of the article blows this out of proportion in an obvious attempt to start off another console war debate. shame on you QJ!

Yet another example:

"...Fallout 3 will be a little bit more restrictive in terms of how "open" the players can roam around the world." Yet another example why I will NOT be buying Fallout 3. If you had played the original Fallout or Fallout 2, you would know that the game lets you roam wherever and however you want. This is another example of the travesty Bethesda is doing. They are turning the Fallout franchise into a quasi-linear FPS with a few RPG elements. DON'T BUY THIS GAME!!! Even Pete Hines looks like an *******

For shame

You are an idiot. I've played both original games extensively, and it doesn't just let you roam wherever and however you want. You can load city cells, or 'wander' the wilderness in between, but it's just completely random encounters in between each actual section. Not a free roaming open world. Even if Bethesda wants to restrict player movement a bit more, it's way to early to slam them for it - you don't know how much of a limit there will be, or in what way it will be implemented. Bethesda makes excellent games, and they are all professed fans of the originals, so to assume they'd screw it up is just stupid on your part. Especially stupid is basing the game on how their VP of Public Relations looks in any way. People like you are what give people on the Internet a bad name.
