PAL PS3 dissected

Posted Mar 6, 2007 at 11:35PM EST by QJ Staff

Ó

We came across some photos of a PAL PlayStation 3 with its insides exposed. What we found was different from what we expected. The box was different as this version looked pretty chic in vanilla. However, there have been some significant changes in this PS3 compared to its NTSC counterpart.

One change is that there are no component cables, the HD connectivity on the box was absent and most notably, no HDMI. The changes may have been spurred by Sony's installation of other new hardware to optimize the next-gen gaming experience. Not to worry though, PAL PS3 owners can always shell out some extra dough to enjoy cutting-edge 480i graphics from their uber console.

Have a look at these:

Does this mean the PAL version has lost HDMI connectivity altogether?.

it still supports it, you just need to buy the HDMI cables seperately like with the NTSC version

Do you mean there was no HDMI cable? or are you implying there is no HDMI port on the machine what so ever? I highly doubt Sony, who have been pushing HD like crazy would just Opt to exclude it from the Pal version of the PS3.

I think when you're saying there's no 'HDMI connectivity on the box', you mean there's no 'HDMI connectivity out of the box' and by that I take it you're referring to the lack of an HDMI cable.

So what you're saying is that Sony are, in this regard, treating everyone the same?

The Play.com bundle is including an HDMI cable if anyone is interested.

They never came with an HDMI Cable

So lets try to *****ing bash sonys brains in?

No!!, since the 360 can't even do *****ing digital video, they will be on analog until xbox360v2 come outs! Which then you will have to buy a new consol if you want it! O, look at that, kinda sucks doesn't it?

Im sick and tired of you *****ing 360 fanboys coming in and bashing out ***** trying to justify your purchase when its clear the ps3 will be the better consol and the ps3 users being to ***** wiped to fight back. Not me i will do the same ***** you do. Come into your section of the forums and bash your *****ing head off.

So now about the cable.

Go to monoprice and you can find a cable for $5. Then you will have digital video. The reason the hdmi cables are cheaper then their analog counterparts is because on analag, the quality depends on the metal inside. With digital you can have the *****tiest wire and the same kick ass picture. Btw if you want one of those cables i can find em for $1 shipped!

Next off analog isnt limited at 480i it could go up to 1080i.

DURG!!!

LEARN YOUR ***** BEFORE SPREADING IT, AND IF YOU WANT TO BASH IT GTFO!

360 does 1080p through VGA and they upscale to 1080p through component. It's not a native 1080p signal

This one is completely screwed up, and the original is the best choice.

this article is just straight up false and it is misleading, this is the second time within two weeks that this blog has false info on the ps3 the last one was when they reported that tekken was up on the psn when it was not. i hope they fix this article or delete it.

i have been on this site since around the time the psp launched and i love this place but honestly lately this place has been a little untrustworthy.

last but not least that ps3 is looks exactly like the NTSC one the only difference is the power cord, the rest is exactly the same.

This article is a load of tripe. Does the person that wrote it actually know English? They just rearranged the sentences from the original, but STILL got it WRONG!

I mean paying extra for 480i??? Honestly.

Erm, what hardware was added to the PAL PS3? As far as I know, they took out the EE+GS chip and that was it. I agree with the "delete/edit this article" movement. It is really badly written...

that line is very confusing... makes people think theres no HDMI port on the ps3... which total renders it pointless

go take an english class before you start writing stuff for people to read...

Unfortunately 360 will currently not do true 1080p (maybe with the new HDMI system) as the 360's output is analogue not digital. The signal is just upscalled to 1080p.

480i?

with PAL that would be 576i...

and then again you'd want 576p (at least)

NO HD CONNECTIVITY means NO HDMI!!!!!!! No HDMI port because it an use analog for HD. Look at your display setting and choose Component or RGB video and it will still use analog and will will be able to change resolution.

ive seen qj sunk on low days.

but this is the worst yet.

misleading people again.

i smell biased newscasting.

japan and USA also got those same standard package. you have to shell out some few bucks more if you wanna go High Def, either buy a ps2/ps3 component cable or HDMI cable, lots are out there, you just pick the cheap ones coz they all do pretty much the same except if you are a perfectionist.

btw any news about p-a-r-a-d-o-x yet?

360 does 1080p through vga without restrictions (since vga is a computer interface)

does 1080p through component for games only.

and yes its native 1080p as long as the game supports it.

analog or digital has no say in what the max resolution is, analog actually has a higher limit cause of more bandwidth, but deteriorates quickly, the longer or worse quality the cable is.

analog or digital also has no say in what resolution a game may run, only movies are affected by this, vga is not affected by this rule, since its a computer interface (so it may upscale dvd's to 1080p).
