Casino Royale (Blu-Ray Version) missing in action... - Image 1After rushing home your pre-ordered PlayStation 3, carefully removing the bubble wraps and plugging in your 60 GB, CELL monster machine into the PlayStation Network, you probably then realized, "Hey, wait a minute! Where's my free Blu-Ray movie?" Well, you're one out of 20,000 hopefuls that have more or less wondered about that, too.

Despite being revealed in detail at pre-launch briefing events, Sony doesn't have any official promotion regarding the free movie giveaway. It's bothered some people that they went through the trouble of getting online and probably won't get anything in return. But as Sony revealed to Eurogamer that they still do remember their promise and will keep it.

Unfortunately for many of the 600,000 European customers who've grabbed their PlayStation 3 unit, will not know whether they qualified for the 20,000 online registrants yet until they receive a slightly delayed e-mail confirming that they will receive the free Blu-Ray movie. It won't be arriving instantly though.

As Sony claims, the movie will be coming, but you will have to wait 45 days after the release of the popular Blu-Ray movie on your region, before it gets mailed to you. (donning flame helmet)

>>"Sony doesn't have any official promotion regarding the free movie giveaway"

It's right there on the Australian Playstation.com website!

>>you probably then realized, "Hey, wait a minute! Where's my free Blu-Ray movie?"

I certainly did not, it's not exactly a secret that you had to register online and the movie isn't out until April, and then there's shipping delays and whatnot.

# I SHOULD be getting one...Guest 2007-03-28 17:50
i got my PS3 at Myers Sydney... one of the first in line... 10 minutes walk to my flat... plugged it in... read a magazine while waiting for the firmware update to complete and then registered in the PSNetwork... finished before 1AM... i then started downloading GT and payed for the Tekken Dark Resurrection Download... If i'm not getting one then this promo is BS.

In the US, we got the piece o' crap Talledega Nights. And it WAS in the box!

Still I would have waited til now if I was getting Casino Royale. I could care how long it took. I saw it in the theatre and I very much was going to buy the blu ray when it came out. So six months later, I'd have been glad to wait.

# I have that too...Guest 2007-03-28 18:16
Jin Wu... ahem... i have that too... they gave it away during the launch... haven't seen it yet but i did watched a couple of special features like the deleted scenes and trailers just to see how good Blue Ray really is since i've also got a Sony Bravia to test it on (Will Farrell is now my very first Blue Ray experience... just my freakin luck!!)... one thing i can say though is that it really looks good... my dvd player is also acting up so i got my PS3 just in time.

I thought it was the first 500,000 and not a paltry 20,000. Am I reading this article wrong? Italian users should be disqualified for getting there PS3's early.

Just been to the eurogamer site and says the first 500,000 online! Where does QJ get the 20,000 figure from?

I said on the Austrailan Playstation site that it is the first 20000 people to sign up on the network. I should be ok as I signed in at 12:10am

# wrong..Guest 2007-03-28 23:10
Yup as someone pointed out it is not 20,000;

"Buy a PLAYSTATION®3 home entertainment system and be one of the first 475,000 people in 41 countries across Europe, Middle East and Africa who register the first master account for your console on the PLAYSTATION®Net work on or after 23 March 2007 to receive one copy of the "Casino Royale" film on Blu-Ray Disc (the "Disc") subject to availability."

http://uk.playstation.com/ps3/registration/?WT.mc_id=100072

I guess the 20,000 is the Aussie number to make it almost 500,000 like reports say. Another wrong article by QJ. They need to check up on the facts first..

I got the email from sony weeks ago, and so have many others, just look at any PS3 dedicated forums such as ps3foorums.com, just look and you'll see the sheer volumes who have the email, theres whole threads dedicated to it!

And in the email it states that hte disc will "arrive within 45days"!

For the sake for all be like the many and be patient! do you really think something like this is easy to manage?!

If you didn't get the email guess what? you weren't quick enough! quit moaning, sony stated the figures who could get the disc.

Did you really think with the sales figures you were quick enough, I didn't think I would be (nicely proven wrong though). Why were your hopes so high anyway?

# Got mine as wellGuest 2007-04-17 22:20
Mine arrived yesterday without issue, and well within the 45 days it said it would arrive in, so top marks for Sony.

Much better than my PSP experience - I never did get my Spiderman 2 movie on UMD although I qualified for it, was told I should get it and followed up five times...

So - 100% better experience this time around.

In fact - it's all been better. PS3 was in stock and got it on launch day, PSP wasn't and had to wait. Casino Royale turned up early, Spiderman 2 never arrived.

Unfortunately, the Xbox and Wii fanboys will spin this good news so that Sony still take a bashing - what a shame...
