Pachter speculates about PS3 price cut |
Ó
He said in a GamesIndustry.biz report that "the PS3 can command GBP 425 from the hardcore and I think you'll see price cuts a year from now, probably to GBP 300." He also doesn't believe that the PS3's late launch in PAL is gonna cause any big problems for Sony. He said that:
March is not too late, given Sony's production problems and only 800,000 Wiis sold in Europe last quarter...My guess is that the Wii will be up to near 1.6 - 2 million by March 23, but that is far from an insurmountable head start.

Pachter is correct, for one reason... Blu-Ray. Sony at the moment are losing $150 per PS3 console sold, now because the PS3 is such a high price (£425 in uk) people are reluctant to buy it. This is where the price cut comes in, as in 12 months time Blu-Ray diodes and hardware will decrease in pricem as fast as any other media format does (i.e DVD). Sony will act fast one this and will make price cuts throughout the year hopefully, even though they will still be losing $150 per PS3. So by March next year we could very well see PS3's at £300 each, but Sony will still be losing the same amount of profits as they do now, which is good in the sence that more people will buy a PS3, btu bad as Sony is losing a lot of money until they can secure a 15 million user base.
There isn't a chance that we'll see that kind of a price cut in a 12 month period. "a price cut of more than 150 Euro (roughly US$ 193) could be expected in 12 months" That's quite laughable... Sony would have to see the most horrible sales ever recorded... they would also have to - for some kind of alien hostage situation, not be able to rebox the systems for sales in other parts of the world. If this happens, someone please make me eat these words off my dinner plate.
Not to that degree... not at all. Not in a 12 month period. They may drop the price for the following fall/Christmas season ... not in 12 months. I just plain think that you're wrong. Sorry.
It could happen, as if sony realise that their ps3 sales have come to a stand-still after about 9 months, they will have to think about a price cut from somewhere, and Blu-Ray may at least be a bit cheaper in 12months, so they could cut the price by about £70 instead of £100 and continue losing money per each ps3 sold, possibly even more money per ps3 sold, but can make up this once they establish a solid base
It is 'possible' but not 'probable'
MS could also pack up every 360 in Japan and decide to stop wasting development money on Japanese conversion... but that isn't probable either.
Patcher Said a Lot of "Interesting things"...Heres the Quotes:-
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=22473
Pachter described the PS3's graphics as "phenomenal", adding that the cost of hooking the machine up to a 1080p monitor is "worth every penny".
"I think that games like Gears of War on the 360 look every bit as good, but given that PS3 game development was rushed, I fully expect next year's games to look better on the PS3," Pachter concluded
The Graphics are Phenomenal and the ability to Hook to 1080p is worth Every Penny..
Yep...thats the PS3,Do Ignore Such Important Quotes Next Time Qj ;)
I Believe that there will Be an Increase in the Value of the Package
Basicly,that Means they Could Add 100$-150$ Worth of Additions [a game,a controler....Etc]
This is More Likely to happen than a Pricecut, adding a game worth 60$ for the Consumer but it Costs Sony Much Less
there will be no price cuts unless sales stay slow like they are now... it seems that bottles of black death are selling faster. if sony lowers their price microsoft can cut theirs by a larger margin and make the sony price cut look like a joke...the idea that sony will nock 33 percent of the price off in the first year is laughable. anyone who makes that prediction is either predicting a failure for sony or just plain needs to find a job at mcdonalds.
