Pachter says PS3 complications might have delayed GTA IV |

There's been much speculation lately due to the heart-breaking announcement that Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV for the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Microsoft Xbox 360 would be delayed for at least six months. Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter offers us an explanation why.Pachter says "we think it is likely that the Rockstar team had difficulty in building an exceptionally complicated game for the PS3, and failed to recognise how far away from completion the game truly was until recently."
Pachter also has an idea as to how this affected the Xbox 360 version's launch date. He adds "we think it is also likely that Take-Two had a contractual commitment to Sony that it would not favour competitor Microsoft by launching the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV prior to launching the PS3 version, and believe that any delay of the PS3 version necessitated a delay of the Xbox 360 version."
A possible repercussion, according to Pachter, would be negative feedback from the investors. He adds that the Take-Two management could have foreseen this and might have been able to soften the situation if correct action was applied.
This is probably the first big fumble on the part of the new management, says the analyst. "Given the delays of Manhunt and GTA, its process for monitoring projects under development appears to be a failure," he concludes.

soo im hoping they due what they did to oblivian where it takes up 4 gigs of memory, to give you a fresh and amazing experience....no loading times, bigger footprint... of bulletholes left, explosion marks, dean civilians, farther draw distance with cras that caught your eye dont dissapear every time you turn around........like in saints row
they 360 only has 500 mb of ram to put everything needed on screen , and plus custom music..... and backround downloads.....it takes too much out of powering the game
im not really rooting for this one cause i feel that the 360 without a hard drive will hinder the experience we could of had
im looking forward to GTA5 exclusivly for ps3....taken to its limit's
any ways you bad mouthed kids got your HALO' so go shoot em up.......while us true GTA-PS3 fans have a good time , when it comes around again

Also it could be the limited storage capacity of the DVD for 360 (the game looks big enough to cause this kind of problem)

i hope they take the extra time to take the ps3 to its full potential....just like they polished it up more with OBLIVIAN for the ps3........cause all PS3 have have at least a hard drive of 20 gigs or more....and disk space of 54 gigs and more than twice the power of the 360
soo im hoping they due what they did to oblivian where it takes up 4 gigs of memory, to give you a trouble free, Red Ring of Death proof and amazing experience....no loading times, bigger memory footprint means... tons bullet holes left everywhere, bazooka explosion marks, dead civilians, farther draw distance, no pop up's or hearing the LOAD!!! fighter jet landing noise the 360 makes to load stuff quick like in "Gears" and when cars that caught your eye dont dissapear every time you turn around........like in saints row

In a few words it will suck

And you don't get up Michael Pachter. Almost everyone in the industry was think the same thing. The demo of the PS3 has yet to be shown and it's pretty obvious why.

It may very well be the other way around, but whatever the case there is no proof to support either theory as Rockstar hasn't said otherwise.

explanation for the delay but... If you take into account the games that were going to be realeased in the same month or so with GTAIV eg. Halo... that would surely affect sales. Now you have a far more logical explanation for the delay. The ps3 complications and all that might be blanks shot from ps3 rivals..

That compression technology is just bs on so many levels it's not even funny, and if San Adnreas only took up 4.3GB, you aren't going to need 30gb for the next game.

As for rockstar, Ha Ha! What you get for biting the hands that fed you. Don't be surprised when most xbots still don't buy the game.

That's just internet forum talk, that's not a rumour floating around the games industry.
"Seems like developers of PGR4 did away with the real time daylight and night time racing and claim to be focusing on whether elements instead."
No they didn't. It's different times of day for different tracks (some day, some night), where weather conditions change the nature of the tracks (i.e. rain wetting the track and forming puddles).
I agree that the HDD will probably be used on the 360 (afterall it was for Oblivion, so it's not the first time!), but just the same, it doesn't change the fact that it appears to be the PS3 version holding up the game.

here is proof that it was because it wouldn't fit on dvd.

Also, if the PS3 version is ahead in development, why have all the screens they've shown been from the 360 version ?
Yeah...

as for kaznavich, i seriously doubt it on all counts!!!
xbox360 owners, repeat after me!!!!
I'VE BOUGHT THE WRONG CONSOLE!!!!
lol!

What is Microsoft going to do? Tell them No? This is a huge game for both consoles as it will give people a reason to buy a new console (I know a LOT of people who bought the PS2 for GTA 3).
Screw the stupid asses who bought a Core and didn't purchase an HDD yet. If they are that stupid they won't realize what GTA 4 is anyway.

If you think others bought the wrong console, then you're just an insecure loser. Fact.

Don't stay completely in the dark, name some of the games you created assets for. :)

ps: I didn't said they would be behing on hardware, but behing in dev for the x360 (ps: you have to recode you everything to it fits on another console... and it's not a thing of 2minutes).
Anyway, rockstar is great, so they're not having newbies bugs.

the article explains it all you cant blain the ps3 and that graphics BS you tried to pull with 360 looking better you all should stfu more than half of you dont have both systems and if you do you dont go out and by both. PS3 is not the only one to blaim the article shows you that. what do you want? if the 360 version came out it wouldnt be polished the PS3 version would be better plus it would have added content like oblivion with better textures, better draw distance.

They just got payed maybe a few million by sony so they don't lose the commitment. Jesus, Sony is sooooo gay.

go back to your scabby xbox site and stay there!!!
plus!!! dont call me kid!! im 30 this month so u can kiss my wrinkled ass!! if you didnt buy the wrong console then what the hell are you doing on the ps3 part of qj's site!! and i considered buying an xbox but decided against it because i could see the forthcoming problems of compression to dvd and also heard about the ring of death!!! as well as the fact i wanted to use hdmi for my gaming, so i bought the right console!!!

There is absolutely no proof that it's the 360 version's delay if you read that Sony fanboy's blog. He quotes Sam Houser, who says, "The game is huge and is pushing the hardware platforms to their absolute limits. The top engineers from Sony and Microsoft are working closely with the team in Edinburgh right now, helping us to fully leverage the power of both platforms."
Where does it say that the 360 is causing the delay??? The blogger only ASSUMES it. I guess this is how false rumors get started. People take BLOGS as FACTS!!!

So all this talk about PS3 being the problem is f'd up lie.

Very childish, just as I expected from you. :)
Well great you're 30, but I'm a decade older than you, and given your 'giggling schoolboy' message to 360 owners above, yes I view you as a kid, maybe not physically, but definately mentally (as your post and your response shows).
Time you grew up.
"if you didnt buy the wrong console then what the hell are you doing on the ps3 part of qj's site"
Well I'm on the PS3 site because I have a PS3 and a 360. Sorry, but was that concept to difficult for you? Difficult for kids I guess. ;)

An adult mind would have been able to work that out steveo.

disks dont come over with the blu ray c*** because space currently isnt a issue true they can fit more content on a blu ray disk however current compression tools can cope with the data atm because few game developers will try to use the disk completly because it takes more time the only advantage with blu ray is they dont have to compress at the moment
