Pachter on late GTA IV DLC, Rockstar as rock stars |

After the shocking delay of Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3, Xbox 360) to Q1 2008, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter doesn't see the promised downloadable content for Xbox 360 coming sooner than Q4 next year. Publisher Take-Two inked a US$ 50 million deal with Microsoft for exclusive content, but it will probably go live a little later if Pachter's words hold true."The USD 50 million deferred revenue for GTA episodic content was reclassified as 'long term,' implying a release date no earlier than Q4 2008," Pachter told investors. Even such a huge lump of money doesn't impress the analyst, as he's not convinced that the franchise will be profitable enough.
Wedbush Morgan sees strong sales waiting, with projected numbers at eight million units sold and US$ 400 million in revenue for GTA IV. Pachter, however, believes that future versions may not be as profitable because "Rockstar team has apparently taken its studio name to heart."

Great series come and go. If you take a look at great franchises, there were high points in sales then it goes downhill because the industry evolves.
Take a look at Street Fighter, Metal Gear Solid, and Final Fantasy. Yes, every sequel that came out were ranked the highest and even contended/won Game of the Year awards, but they sold less than whatever came before it.
GTA's open-ended gameplay has been milked by the industry to the max.
