Sony PlayStation 3 - Image 1Despite Sony's statement that a 40GB PlayStation 3 SKU is nothing but speculation, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has said that he still expects the company to release a 40GB PS3 by the holidays. This according to reports from Gamasutra.

According to the analyst, he expects "the heavily speculated 40Gb PS3 to appear at a US$ 399 price as early as the holidays (and in any event early next year)."

The analyst also believes that the 80GB PS3 is in for a price cut before the holidays. "We expect the price of the 80Gb PS3 to be reduced to $499 before the holidays," he said, "maintaining a premium SKU at that price point." Pachter also reiterated his predictions for LittleBigPlanet, saying that the game "will be a console seller in Japan."

I think this guy is the only analyst worth listening to. His predictions have been the most accurate of anybody. If he's right, sony should do pretty well this holiday season.

There's pretty strong evidence of the 40gb PS3, and sony's just trying to cover it up to sell more overpriced Motorstorm bundles.

That game seems like loads of fun to play with friends and I think my family will get into PS3 more by seeing this game.

Actually he's been wrong so often lately that I've lost all respect for him. He predicted MS price cut at E3, wrong. He predicted $100 MS price cut, wrong. He predict PS3 would outsell 360 in July, wrong. He predicted Sony price cut at TGS, wrong. He's now making the 40GB prediction after countless leaks and Sony have already said that they are making an annoucement on Oct 12. It's obvious that it's another price cut. Instead he says between now and the holidays to play it safe, lame.

» I don't know who put a the dislike comment but...

» since you're so sure

so you think that they are going to announce a price cut on October 12, 2007? so if you're wrong then we all get to laugh at you and call you stupid, like you do to pachter.

» I think october 12 is so soon...

but who knows... I guess is better in november... but a price cut... or a cheapiest PS3 thas for sure...

» he's better than most

But still, he is the most accurate of any analyst!

At least he admits when he's wrong rather than pretending he never made a mistake. Nobody knows for sure what a company will do or exactly when, maybe they do the opposite of what he predicts so people won't wait for the price cut.

I laugh at the predictions of DumbFu*kCenter Intelligence, predicting the 360 "a distant third place" in 2 years with the Wii leading in sales still lol! I believe they also predicted the PS3 would sell over 100 million in its lifetime.

» Hmm

I agree as well. And a price cut would help SONY stay in the fight with Nintendo's Wii. As the Wii, DS & PSP (as it stands) are mostly raking in the sales.

And what better time to announce it than the holidays.

» I hate analysts.

What is he (or any analyst for that matter) basing his analysis on? Where is his research? What are his sources. Seems to me he just sits at a desk and talk out his ass like most of these analysts do. Is he really predicting anything we didn't already know? I think Michael "Fudge" Pachter getting caught in a homosexual tryst with Jack Thompson and his bisexual pedophilic tendencies would be hilarious. Rockstar should incorporate that into GTAIV: Capitol City (based right here in Washington DC)
