OXM: Ace Combat 6 TIMED exclusive on the Xbox 360?

Yes, they're wondering if AC6 will come to the PS3, too. - Image 1Well, this writer has argued that the PS3 wouldn't miss out (one way or the other), but inasmuch as nothing official has been announced, we and almost everyone else has made out Namco Bandai's Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation as exclusive to the Xbox 360. At least until over at Evil Avatar and PS3Forums, members in both cite the recent Official Xbox Magazine (OXM) whose game preview claims that AC6 is a timed 360 exclusive.

Not only is Ace 6 the first time the series has departed from a Sony platform and handhelds, but it's a timed exclusive for Xbox 360. It won't hit the other systems for a while.

Well, that changes everything again, doesn't it? Hey, can any owner of the latest OXM confirm this for us?

We're keeping this as a rumor for now, even if it is OXM (Namco Bandai America's PR doesn't say anything about "timed"). Now presuming OXM got everything straight, and this claim is legit, this might not mean a sort of "parallel story" on the PS3, or waiting for AC7 on the PS3. This would mean the same content (okay, maybe a few in-box bonuses for the PS3 version, coming later to the 360 via download, that sort of thing), yeah, PS3 has to wait a bit, but most of all, ultimately the same multiplayer.

While Ace Combat never really had online multiplayer combat before, it's still kinda hard to imagine the AC community split between two services (XBL and PSN). And not everyone owns both a 360 and a PS3. Like we said: that's presuming OXM got it right on the ball. I'll go with juxta (Unregistered) who commented back in that Weekend Slowdown article:

Ooh ooh, here's an idea let the multiplayer online be cross platform and let the fanboys slug it out in the sky. hehe

There's an idea indeed. A silly, even futile idea, knowing the intractable divide between Sony and Microsoft. But then, this ace took to the skies with Pixy's words ringing in his ear: The world has no need of borders. What do borders really mean? (Guess there are no fanboys in foxholes, either.)

It is true...

I just pulled out my May 2007 issue of OXM. Page 46, end of the first paragraph. "Well, Xbox fans don't have to suffer through 'Over G Fighters' anymore, because 'Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation' is deploying exclusively on the Xbox 360." Then again on the bottom margin of the page: "Not only is 'Ace 6' the first time the series has departed from a Sony platform and handhelds, but it's a timed exclusive for Xbox 360. It won't hit other systems for a while" There you have it. Seems pretty true to me, as long as OSM has accurate sources.

s

this how u know now microsoft are payin to get exclusives something tht being developed for ps3 now all of sudden was 360 only they should focus their money on creating original ip like sony

What's a couple months?

I like the ps3 controller better - so unless they give me a good reason to get it for 360 over ps3 then I'll be waiting anyway. Timed exclusives don't bother me - but even if it was completely exclusive I would buy the game for 360 - so either way I would have it.

huh

damn jp u sound heartbroken. Microsoft does have its own IPs like sony and namco is does not belong to sony. What they did is simply good business. don't be upset when games are no longer exclusive to your system because now everyone can enjoy them u just have to wait now. LOL

True

It does seem like Microsoft is paying for exclusives, this type of developer exodus didn't even happen to Nintendo on the N64 (That took years and Nintendo being an Ass to developers, this seems to be all at once)

Cool

Good for you guys.

hmm

You can see it that way, yea. But you can also say, wow, the 360 loses an exclusive. Ouch! Well, at least that's how I see it.

oh no evil Micro$oft corporation is paying for exclusives?

Sony and Microsoft have to pay to keep games exclusive. Since not much money is to be made on PS3 ports in the first place, MS probably doesn't have to pay as much.
