Opera Logo - Image 1Greater Opera functionality on the PS3 would make for an interesting development, wouldn't it? Well, worry no more, because that's apparently going to be one thing we can expect just about... now.

While scouring the net for news for our Wii blog, we stumbled upon this post from the Opera Desktop Team. In it, they mention a bunch of changes for Opera, including one thing PS3 owners may very well like. According to the Opera Desktop Team, "we have now ppc-linux .6 packages: that means that they work (okay, should work) on your PS3! - if you installed Linux on it."

Yes folks, you can finally try out putting Opera as another browser type on your PS3. On the flipside, The latest build should allow for fullscreen resolution on YouTube, so if you're like some of us here, you might be able to get even more out of your PS3 than you ever expected. In the meantime, you may want to read up on some tutorials for installing Linux, as well as some other apps, on your PS3. Enjoy!

I've had opera running on my PS3 since the start of the year. Under gentoo, 'emerge opera' has provided ... opera!

I guess the new PS3 features in 9.2 is not new's? Right....

I got it installed here on Ubuntu, but flash crap still is not working, it ask to install the plugin, which we all know will not work. So maybe update this news with factual information?

I can already do that with the PS3 web browser on version 1.6 firmware using the zoom function.

I'd rather use Firefox, personally. Last time I tried Opera, half the screen was a banner-ad saying "BUY OPERA NAO".

# Put out the drivers for the stupid bluetooth already!Guest 2007-04-01 05:22
All nice and dandy but completely worthless until they add drivers for the bluetooth in linux and the opengl. Let's get the basics first working first. Me personally I would just like to have some good basic functionality that took advantage the hardware. Like putting bicycle tires on a Ferrari, yea that baby looks nice and sounds awesome just can't get that horsepower to the ground and in the end you just an idiot.

# Bluetooth works fine....Guest 2007-04-01 15:05
Bluetooth works fine in my installation (Ubuntu).

Also I can run Quake3, so opengl works. But it's darn slow with no RSX drivers, sense its only using the cpu.
