OFLC refuses to rate Dark Sector for Australian release |
Ó
Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) has refused to rate Digital Extremes' Dark Sector (Xbox 360, PS3). This means that the game may not hit retail stores in the region unless the developers decide to tone down the violent content of the game.According to the OFLC, Dark Sector is "violent and sometimes gruesome game with a sinister storyline and ominous outcome." The organization added that "the violence and aggression inflicted upon the protagonist is of a high level, naturalistic and not stylised at all." To further stress the point, the comany cited one of the common occurrences in the game:
When Hayden cuts off his opponent's limb with the glaive, large amounts of blood spray forth from the stump and the injured person screams in agony which increases the impact.
The sales & product anager from AFA Interactive (the publisher of the game) Adam Zweck commented on this move saying, "this is (hopefully) not the end of the line for the game however, just a pretty substantial, but temporary, set-back."

Luckily this isnt Film nor Literature. Its a video game and thus none of their concern. Maybe thats why they refused classification. Yep.
The OFLC is responsible for rating video games in Australia.
If that was the case, then shouldn't they rate the damn game? It seems they are shirking responsibility by NOT rating it just to make it unsellable in the country. I greatly dislike groups that try to control people this way.
While I understand the frustration you feel about this move by the OFLC, it might be good to note that the group may have certains standards and practices that influenced this decision.
I mean for the fans that waiting for this game like me in the US I'm loving every lil thing about the game, so far but if they gonna tone it down better keep it the way it was for us in the US. Thats all I'm saying as a fan of this game thats waiting for it's release.
